Hi. I’m Brandon. And I’m David. We’re the hosts of “Late to the Party,” a podcast where we investigate and breakdown the “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die,” the 2016 edition edited by Robert Dimery. Why listen? Well, we are high school English teachers which means we’re experts at making nothing sound like absolutely everything. Every week we will listen to an album from the list and break... more

Sometimes it doesn't work. Sometimes it is better left untouched. Is the "it" in this particular episode OutKast's 2003 breakup (double) album? Or, in a stunning turn of events, is the "it" in question the very existence of the episode itself? It's u... more
Brandon guides David through a therapy-session-of-an-episode to analyze a person's love/hate of modern pop music. Where is the line drawn between annoying earworms and catchy clean pop music? Does Brandon succeed as an unlicensed therapist? Is David ... more
Always entertaining. Always educational. I look forward to listening to the albums again after listening to the show.
Love the feeling of nostalgia this gives me!
A friend recommended the podcast to me since I know absolutely nothing about music; I’m the person who sometimes chooses to drive my car in complete silence type of weird. It’s a good balance of humor, intellect, & information that will now allow me to seem less like a musical luddite in polite conversation. Added Bonus: I dig the artwork.
Listening to the banter between David and Brandon brings me back to my college days sitting around a crowded living room debating music, philosophy, literature with a bunch of humanities folks. Insightful, entertaining, and guaranteed to leave you wanting more.
These two young hepcats deliver the goods when it comes to cutting-edge music criticism. Speaking as a much older bloke—a person who has HEARD of Radiohead and Oasis, for example, while remaining unaccountably confused and ill-informed as to their cultural & historical significance—I can still attest to the fact that this 50-minute convo manages to be both diverting and edifying. Highly recommend!
