  • What a terrific podcast!

How good is David Marr? No topic is off limits, he’s afraid of nothing or no-one. Forthright, very knowledgeable & independent with interesting subjects every night. He tells things as they really are which makes a refreshing change from the media. ABC did well with their choice

  • Barry Jones is numinous

How good is the 2026 Barry Jones episode?! The brilliance that pours out of the man continues into the 9th decade! Makes me wistful for visionary politicos in an era of shallow sloganeers that infests Australian politics presently. Thank you, this is an episode to cherish.

  • Condescending 78-year-old interviewer

David Marr’s interview with Chris Hedges on 21 October is a worthwhile listen. It can’t be unheard.

If you like what Marr is doing in the interview, then keep on listening to this podcast.

On the other hand, if you occasionally listen to Marr and find his interview approach somewhat exasperating, then his interview with Hedges is definitely worth the listen. It is so excruciatingly bad.

Listening to the interview has been very validating. It’s unfortunate Marr has dropped to such lows.

David Marr is a very worthy presenter following in the footsteps of Philip Adams. Erudite , very witty and intelligent. I wished he was still on Insiders on Sunday mornings . Absolutely love his work .

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Will Saudi Arabia be the winners in the war on Iran?
Q: Have you a view of why the United States joined Israel in this campaign to bomb Iran to smithereens?
The guest suggests that the move isn't rooted in traditional realpolitik but in personality politics and opportunistic alignment with Israel, with a belief that destroying Iran's nuclear program could be framed as a decisive strategic victory, despite lingering questions about Iran's proxies.
Ian Dunt's UK: Trump pressures Starmer on Iran war
Q: The question is, what comes next?
Ian outlines that Britain's stance aims to keep defensive operations allowed while avoiding direct involvement in offensive actions, and notes the political calculus around Starmer's popularity and the Labour Party's internal dynamics.
How US presidential pardons are being used as a political tool
Q: What distinguishes the most controversial pardons, like Ford's Nixon pardon, from more accepted uses of clemency?
Controversial pardons often involve perceived deals or political calculations that threaten trust in the justice system, whereas widely accepted clemency cases tend to be framed as national healing or resolving injustices, with clearer, publicly stated rationales.
How US presidential pardons are being used as a political tool
Q: Could a president ever pardon himself or remain in office after a temporary resignation to bypass accountability?
Historically discussed as a hypothetical, self-pardons are contentious and generally deemed legally dubious; a temporary resignation followed by a pardon raises practical and constitutional questions, and even if legally potentially possible, would be politically explosive and controversial.
How US presidential pardons are being used as a political tool
Q: Is it feasible or desirable to reform the pardon clause—perhaps adding other bodies to grant pardons or amending the Constitution?
There is consideration of piecemeal constitutional reforms or alternate mechanisms to limit partisan pardons, such as a broader body of experts or Congress participating, but opening the entire Constitution is daunting and faces opposition from powerful interests; reform might instead occur through targeted amendments to the pardon process.
