  • Applauds Science & The Cross

This podcast is a breath of fresh air for those in the Christian fold who wish to engage in science and/or disciplines informed by science. Helps keep me centred when I am discouraged by, at times, the appalling lack of understanding or willingness to engage in environmental, medical, or other scientific topics that one commonly encounters with evangelicals. Keep up the great work.

  • Excellent, Timely, and Informative

Thank you for your discussions and interviews regarding science and faith. As a Christ follower who believes in science, I'm very disillusioned by what the American (white) conservative evangelical subculture (of which I was a part for 35 years) has become and how there's been so much extremist politics and denial of good science, like with vaccines and the need to combat climate change. Your program and organization are greatly needed.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

208. NT Wright | New Creation Breaking In
Q: How should Christians understand the relationship between the past and the future?
The past centers on Jesus and the Spirit; the future is God's renewal of creation, and believers participate in that renewal here and now through acts of justice, care, and worship.
208. NT Wright | New Creation Breaking In
Q: What does it mean to say the Bible is about history, not just ideas?
It means that early Christians claimed the events surrounding Jesus, his death and resurrection, fulfilled God's plan, and history is read through the lens of those events rather than as abstract propositions.
206. Jessica Malaty Rivera | Making Sense from the Noise
Q: What lessons did you learn about communicating science on social media?
That you need to front-load clarity and credibility, show your own experiences when possible, acknowledge uncertainty, and tailor messages to different audiences while citing sources and avoiding misinformation.
206. Jessica Malaty Rivera | Making Sense from the Noise
Q: How did you get involved with the COVID Tracking Project and what was that experience like?
I joined through a Facebook/Twitter outreach and helped build the science communication team, coordinating data explanations, tweets, and collaborations with newsrooms to make data understandable and trustworthy during a chaotic period.
206. Jessica Malaty Rivera | Making Sense from the Noise
Q: Can you give us a little autobiography? Like, where did you grow up and what was your family like? And what were you like as a kid?
I describe growing up as a first-generation American with Egyptian roots, a curious kid who loved science and languages, which eventually led me toward public health and a career in epidemiology and science communication.
