Brightline, the first private passenger train to open in the U.S. in more than a century, is hailed as a national model for the future of rail. Since 2018, Brightline has sold millions of train tickets in Florida, and now the company is expanding to the West Coast. A yearlong investigation from WLRN News and the Miami Herald uncovers a glaring dark side: Brightline remains the deadliest passenger ... more

Hear the stories of three people who lost their lives on the tracks, in the words of the loved ones they left behind.
Brightline hasn’t yet turned a profit — and it’s billions of dollars in debt.
Taxpayers are on the hook for hundreds of millions in costs related to Brightline, despite the company’s initial claims that the train would be fully funded by private investment.

This is an in-depth piece on different aspects of Brightline. You have to listen to each and every episode to get a true sense of the whole story. I think this investigative journalism is well done.

Required listening to help understand the ramifications of the private/public mix of funds touted as the solution to today’s problems, e.g., education, healthcare, prisons, etc.
Florida resident here, people are here commenting strange things, indicating their assumption that there are poles/flashing lights everywhere a road crosses a train track, that’s simply not the case in Florida. Although there are many alert devices they aren’t at all intersections. Anyone who walks near EV cars knows they sneak up on you unless they have that fun high pitched Jetsons sound effect.
Disappointed on the reporting done, found it very one sided. Did we as tax payers get the short end of the stick, most definitely. However, not sure what more can be done by Brightline or any other railroad company to keep people off the tracks when the poles come down. It’s a matter of education (at a young age) and common sense, imo.
Pointless surface-level exploration. Just because the ME’s office fails to label a death as a suicide does not mean that it wasn’t a suicide.
Do the train tracks move? Right, that’s what I thought…they are always in the same place. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
