  • Salute to the Hosts

Listener recommendation: Go for the “Performance & Interview Only” option. That’s where the hosts shine. Cheryl, Kevin, Morgan, everybody — keep doing your thing.

  • Finally fixed sound quality

For a while there, this podcast sounded like it was recorded with a 32 bit MP3 stream. Finally back to the usual excellent sound quality! Don’t let this backslip again, KEXP!

  • So. Much. Talking.

I like this podcast because it has helped me find some new bands that I would not have discovered otherwise. In the last year or so they have added a “host” who talks. So. Much. I find myself skipping through large parts just to get to the actual music and avoid the host. It is really difficult to enjoy it any more. I hope this goes back to what it was which was a performance and not all the annoying morning FM DJ talking.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Bures Band (Live on KEXP)
Q: So how did you come to be a collaborative project with three songwriters and three guitars and three singers?
The band explains they started after playing around in their hometown of Perth, with members from different bands coming together and discovering shared musical tastes, which naturally evolved into a style built on harmonies from the early influence of classic groups like Crosby, Stills and Nash.
Home Front (Live on KEXP)
Q: Are you ready to jump right in? Jump right in some questions?
Yes, we're ready to dive in and talk about influences, writing process, and how the band developed its sound across records.
Lala Lala (Live on KEXP)
Q: How did living in Iceland influence your approach to music and collaboration?
Iceland exposed me to embracing the cold and collaborating with the environment, which shaped how I approach space, mood, and collaboration in my creative process.
Lala Lala (Live on KEXP)
Q: What is it like working with Melina (Jason) and how does she influence the process?
Melina brings a fast, intuitive workflow; she can play multiple instruments and understands the sonic language I'm aiming for, which makes the collaboration feel seamless and productive.
Lala Lala (Live on KEXP)
Q: What is the effect of Bachelorette's sharpness and emotional depth on your own songs?
I'm drawn to music that feels timeless and human, where sharpness serves emotion rather than overshadowing it, which I try to achieve in Heaven 2.
