  • Salute to the Hosts

Listener recommendation: Go for the “Performance & Interview Only” option. That’s where the hosts shine. Cheryl, Kevin, Morgan, everybody — keep doing your thing.

  • Finally fixed sound quality

For a while there, this podcast sounded like it was recorded with a 32 bit MP3 stream. Finally back to the usual excellent sound quality! Don’t let this backslip again, KEXP!

  • So. Much. Talking.

I like this podcast because it has helped me find some new bands that I would not have discovered otherwise. In the last year or so they have added a “host” who talks. So. Much. I find myself skipping through large parts just to get to the actual music and avoid the host. It is really difficult to enjoy it any more. I hope this goes back to what it was which was a performance and not all the annoying morning FM DJ talking.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Weird Nightmare (Live on KEXP)
Q: It must be fun to play with new friends as well. How does it feel to be expanding the guitar sounds?
The guest expressed gratitude for the new collaborators and the opportunity to push sonic boundaries, enjoying the collaborative process and the energy of mixing new textures into the live performance.
Weird Nightmare (Live on KEXP)
Q: I know you love everything about making music with Mets, but can you talk about the itch that Weird Nightmare scratches for you, both musically and creatively?
The artist explained that influences from early sounds and the environment they grew up in shaped a straightforward songwriting approach, with honesty guiding the process and a payoff in the sense of exploration when working with collaborators.
Yeah NO (Live on KEXP)
Q: Chris, tell me about the name of the band and how it reflects your approach to the music.
The name seems like a mission statement or battle cry, signaling a self-critical, obtuse humor about titling and an ethos of challenging conventions while still embracing the music's core improvisational and collaborative nature.
Cabaret Voltaire (Live on KEXP)
Q: Steven, would you introduce the band?
Yes, I would, providing a historical context and acknowledging key members and collaborators who shaped Cabaret Voltaire, including the late Richard H. and Chris Watson, as we discuss the current touring lineup.
Slomosa (Live on KEXP)
Q: Can you tell us about the first time you saw Slomosa playing live?
The drummer Jard describes seeing the band during a street-side streaming session, which led to him joining the band later, marking a pivotal origin moment.
