べナードは勉強が苦手な14歳。中学二年生の年齢ですが、小学二年生と一緒に学んでいます。学習障害の可能性も否定しきれないと様子ですが、独特の世界観を持っていて、お絵描きが大好き。よく「これを書いたよ」と見せてくれる一面もあります。ストリートチルドレンの背景はさまざまですが、どのように個々の才能を伸ばしていくべきか、いつも考えています。

モヨ・チルドレン・センターでは先日、子どもたちが普段から心に抱いていることを吐き出してもらうために「Suggestion Box（ご意見箱）」の取り組みを実施しました。そこには色々な内容が書かれていて、路上で生活し、家庭から切り離されている子どもたちの本音に触れることの難しさを痛感しました。彼らの心にポッカリと空いた穴を埋めることはできないけれど、その上で、どう寄り添っていくのか、いつも考えています。
