  • I really want to like this podcast, but...

unfortunately, although the content is excellent, the delivery is awful. Most of the time the presenters just read the text of the podcast - very fast, in a monotonous voice. While as a written piece it could perhaps work, it doesn't work as an audio. I end up pausing and rewinding, and eventually giving up on learning and remembering. An audio lecture needs to be delivered at a slower pace, with fewer lists and numbers...

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Infections in Two Diet Strategies in HSCT and Leukemia Patients
Q: What did the results suggest for clinical practice?
liberalized diet increased major infections in the studied high-risk population, supporting continued use of neutropenic diets in acute leukemia induction and stem cell transplant settings, while data are less clear for less intensively treated patients and require further study.
Infections in Two Diet Strategies in HSCT and Leukemia Patients
Q: What were the key design elements to ensure a fair comparison between diets?
The trial used a non-inferiority framework with robust infection endpoints, standardized food handling education, monitoring for adherence, inpatient oversight, and a single adjudicator applying infectious disease criteria to documented infections.
Infections in Two Diet Strategies in HSCT and Leukemia Patients
Q: What motivated testing a liberalized diet in high-risk stem cell transplant and acute leukemia patients?
Historically neutropenic diets were thought to limit infections by reducing dietary microbes, but prior trials were small, inconclusive, and often didn't measure actual infection rates or adherence; a larger, robust trial with documented infections was needed to determine true benefits or harms.
Association Between EOL SACT and Healthcare Utilization
Q: What is the relationship between systemic anticancer therapy and health outcomes at the end of life?
The research shows that systemic anticancer therapy is associated with higher healthcare utilization and adverse outcomes like increased hospitalization.
JCO at 2025 ASH: Pirtobrutinib in Untreated CLL
Q: How do you see the potential for regulatory approval for Pirtobrutinib?
Both of these trials were designed with registrational intent in the frontline setting and they're both positive studies, which is encouraging for approval.
