Although I find what the rabbi has to say, interesting and informative, I don’t think I would classify it as history, over the years the content is more focused on the weekly portion and current events
With how horrible the last two years have been, I’ve thrown myself headlong into becoming more Jewish than ever before. Hearing someone with such immense knowledge on the topic speak with humility and respect is just so refreshing. I’ve had enough of self-hating Jews for a lifetime.
This is one of the best history podcasts ever. Rabbi Katz is extremely erudite, his humor is on point, and his mature and thoughtful perspectives are a pleasure to listen to. His superpower is getting one to feel the “vibe” of the time period/historical figure he is discussing. Highly highly recommend.
Dovid Katz is a brilliant historian. He preserves and communicates the Jewish experience of Christian Europe, the Muslim world, and America. Learn about your world from the perspective of a people who are immersed in, yet distinct from dominant cultures.
(It would be great if someone provided translations of the most common Yiddish words Rabbi Katz uses: mamesh, goy, sefer, klal, yiddishkite, etc.)

A historically focused lecture series led by a scholar with deep knowledge of Jewish history and thought. Episodes survey Jewish experiences across centuries and geographies, from medieval Europe to modern American communities, often tying biblical, rabbinic, and cultural themes to contemporary life. The host frequently centers on Torah portions, Haftarah readings, and major Jewish historical events, while weaving in readings from primary sources and personal anecdotes to illuminate how identity, tradition, and scholarship intersect. Noteworthy traits include a dense, source-driven delivery, a broad range of topics within Jewish history and thought, and a recurring emphasis on connecting ancient texts to present-day experiences.
