  • Fantastic

I enjoy a good movie. Sometimes, I don’t understand “the why” a particular film moves me, excites me, and brings me such joy. This inSession podcast opened my eyes. It provided insite on the director and actors, their characters, and on the body of their individual works. The review also thoroughly explained the structure, flow, editing, creative style and industry magic used in this film. The participants are knowledgeable, humorous, and great communicators. They are also professional, respectf... more

  • Re: Chasing the Gold

I appreciate any Oscar enthusiasts and especially film criticism. Though I have a few notes.

Shadan doesn’t seem confident or qualified to be hosting a podcast. They mispronounce names repeatedly (it’s not that difficult to research). Not to mention, sounds as if constantly on the verge of tears.

This is meant to be constructive criticism. Also perhaps follow an outline when you hit record? Also edit. The most recent two hour episode was littered with irrelevant banter about rankings and what... more

  • One of my favorites for film dissection

New review specifically for the main feed: best of the 2000s and no mention of The Hours in any of your categories? Y’all must be too male to compute.

  • Hope it gets better,

and I may adjust if it improves with age, but so far there’s at least one person in each episode almost or completely ruining it. You have: the dude who says “like” constantly; the bloke who sounds like he was told his dog died before recording, so he smoked a bunch of indica then popped some ‘ludes equaling no energy or enthusiasm, and finally the guy who incessantly says, “to me, for me” and “for me, personally.” Sometimes, no joke, he goes “To me, at least for me, personally...” It’s obvious ... more

  • Fun to listen to

I listen to Reel Spoilers and was looking for something similar. I don’t like movie reviewers who sound like they are reading a script or others who have no knowledge of film. These guys chat, sound comfortable, have insight and give interesting points of view. I’m a new listener and will start checking out prior episodes.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Chasing the Gold: Cult Classics
Q: Why is Zodiac considered a cult candidate despite its mainstream appeal, and what nominations would you give it?
The discussion centers on Zodiac's layered structure and masterful direction, arguing that its appeal grows with repeated viewings, and they propose nominations for director, screenplay, editing, cinematography, and original score.
Chasing the Gold: Cult Classics
Q: Which 2000s film stands out as a quintessential cult pick, and why is Kiss Kiss Bang Bang important in RDJ's career arc?
Josh highlights Kiss Kiss Bang Bang as a pivotal comedy-noir that showcases Robert Downey Jr.'s range, giving him a major comeback role and demonstrating Shane Black's sharp, witty storytelling that resonates with fandoms.
Chasing the Gold: Cult Classics
Q: What was the appeal of Akira that earned it a spot on the list, beyond being a landmark anime?
The guest argues Akira helped put anime on the map in the West, with a haunting score and memorable themes that have influenced generations of filmmakers, contributing to its status as a foundational cult title.
Chasing the Gold: Cult Classics
Q: How do you define your cult classics and distinguish them from merely popular titles?
Josh explains that cult classics often straddle the line between box-office performance and lasting subcultural appeal, emphasizing a sizable yet passionate following and a movie that remains discussed and revered within certain circles long after release.
Chasing the Gold: New Rules from The Academy
Q: Given that the Academy is making a lot of changes recently, we've seen the introduction of the casting category and other reforms, do you think any of these are actually going to increase viewership?
I think some changes, like moving toward YouTube and broader transparency, could help bring in casual viewers who aren't glued to the festival circuit, but it will depend on execution and how well campaigns adapt to new rules. Overall, it feels like a mix of potential gains and areas that could remain niche without broader cultural buy-in.
