  • Sound volume

Love this podcast Jack but the volume compared to what is playing before or after is soooo much less. I have to have the volume so high just for your episodes

  • Engaging, informative and thoroughly enjoyable

Jack Edward’s podcast Inklings is very enjoyable. Jack’s enthusiasm for books and reading shines through. A particular favourite was the episode with Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi which included Andrew O’Hagan reading a passage from Frankenstein — really bringing it to life!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Virginia Evans: The Correspondent
Q: Why choose an epistolary format, and what does it offer to the reader?
Letters provide a chain-like, chronological but dispersed view of her life, offering a unique snapshot that reflects memory, omission, and the way ordinary communication can carry profound meaning across time and space.
Virginia Evans: The Correspondent
Q: Could you explain the premise of the book to someone unfamiliar with it?
The story follows Sybil Van Antwerp through intimate letters and emails, tracing her life, relationships, and memories as she ages, with the narrative anchored in her correspondence rather than a conventional third-person plot.
Marcia Hutchinson: The Mercy Step
Q: What was the hardest part of writing such a traumatic period of Mercy's life?
Confronting and reconstructing painful memories required careful pacing and a lot of emotional work; Hutchinson describes it as hollowing out her insides yet necessary for authentic storytelling and eventual catharsis.
Marcia Hutchinson: The Mercy Step
Q: What is auto-fiction, and how does The Mercy Step fit into that label?
Auto-fiction blends real life with fiction, allowing editorializing and a narrative grounded in memory while creating new, imagined elements; The Mercy Step uses this approach to explore Mercy's life in a way that feels both true and transformative.
Anders Lustgarten: Kill Billionaire
Q: For the uninitiated, could you introduce the premise?
Anders explains that Kill Billionaire centers on Kayla, a precocious 14-year-old who sees the climate crisis as a battleground against the billionaire class, and uses a combination of cunning, courage, and subversive tactics to challenge them, while the narrative balances serious themes with humor and a sense of moral clarity.
