  • Sound volume

Love this podcast Jack but the volume compared to what is playing before or after is soooo much less. I have to have the volume so high just for your episodes

  • Engaging, informative and thoroughly enjoyable

Jack Edward’s podcast Inklings is very enjoyable. Jack’s enthusiasm for books and reading shines through. A particular favourite was the episode with Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi which included Andrew O’Hagan reading a passage from Frankenstein — really bringing it to life!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Benjamin Wood: Seascraper
Q: How does Edgar's presence influence Thomas's self-awareness and aspirations?
Edgar's gaze and ideas illuminate Thomas's hidden potential and insecurities, making Thomas more self-conscious about his place in the world and prompting him to consider possibilities beyond Longferry, while also revealing both characters' limitations and hopes.
Benjamin Wood: Seascraper
Q: What drew you to explore the sea as a central force in the novel?
I've always felt a strong connection to the sea, and I wanted the atmosphere of the book to be shaped by its constancy and unpredictability, mirroring how it governs the characters' lives and aspirations.
Benjamin Wood: Seascraper
Q: Would you mind, in your own words, explaining the premise of Seascraper?
The premise is that Seascraper follows Thomas Flett for about a day and a half as he juggles the duties of a cart shanker with private dreams of becoming a folk singer, set against a seaside town that grounds the narrative in place and tradition.
Kaveh Akbar: Martyr!
Q: Were there moments you felt protective of Cyrus, or did you enjoy watching him unravel on the page?
Cyrus is depicted as hapless and solipsistic, but the author values watching him learn and confront consequences, which allows readers to engage with his growth rather than simply observe a downfall.
Kaveh Akbar: Martyr!
Q: Do you see Cyrus as someone who is healing or someone who is becoming more articulate about the pain he is experiencing, or is that a form of healing in itself?
Healing is a process; Cyrus is portrayed as transitioning and gaining new perspectives day by day, becoming better at recognizing triggers and articulating his suffering as part of recovery.
