  • Educated, Timely, & Necessary

Beautifully thought provoking and insightful podcast. The subject matter in each episode not only strengthens our understanding of the past, but more importantly, lends a necessary filter through which we may uniquely comprehend the gravity of our own time.

  • Interesting & thought-provoking

I have to admit that my knowledge of history is weak, at best, and I have enjoyed the first two episodes. Learning more about GW was fascinating & perhaps since I’m much older than I was in civics class, I can appreciate his unique qualities & the monumental challenge of creating a new nation. No woke topics thus far IMO. I found the discussion about women’s roles at the time to be consistent with what I know of history. Even the topic of slavery was handled with dignity & honesty. • Excellent Non partisan podcast

Great overall podcast. Non partisan, yet the delusional MAGA types will still call it woke, whatever that means.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

John Quincy Adams Avoids The Monsters Abroad
Q: What does he do as a member of Congress?
As a Congressman, Adams serves for 18 years, speaks on abolition and civil liberties, represents the Amistad case before the Supreme Court, and uses parliamentary skill to oppose the gag rule and protect First Amendment rights.
John Quincy Adams Avoids The Monsters Abroad
Q: What does that quote mean?
The quote about not going abroad to destroy monsters is paired with a broader message: the United States should avoid entangling itself in wars that do not affect its core interests, while still engaging with other nations as an equal partner and ally.
Thomas Jefferson: Futurist
Q: How does Jefferson reconcile his ideals with his practices, especially slavery?
The host and guest acknowledge the profound contradictions between Jefferson's professed liberty for all and his ownership of enslaved people, noting that emancipation remained politically infeasible for much of his life, leading to a legacy that blends visionary ideals with troubling realities.
Thomas Jefferson: Futurist
Q: Tell us what lesson can we learn from Thomas Jefferson?
Jefferson's enduring optimism about the future and his faith in gradual progress teach that long-term political change often comes from patient cultivation of ideas, education, and institutions, even when immediate actions are politically constrained.
