  • Fig leaf

I was hopeful this would become an interesting feature. What it seems to be is “Don’t believe what your eyes are telling you.” Optimism is great but only when grounded by reality. The Post has dropped podcasts that delivered real insight and news and we are left with this escapist drivel. The Post can do so much better and often has. This is just a sad reflection of The Post’s decline.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Health care is life or death. How can Americans be rational about it?
Q: If you could make only one tweak to the system, what would it be to bring down prices while preserving access and value?
Increase competition across the health care marketplace, including enabling pharmacists and other professionals to take on more roles, and reduce barriers like restrictive scope-of-practice laws and market protections that limit entry and keep prices high.
Health care is life or death. How can Americans be rational about it?
Q: Before we talk about frustration or cost, can you just help us level set? How would you compare the American health care system right now to the rest of the world in terms of innovation, cost, or access?
The U.S. leads in innovation, with advanced care delivery models and new treatments, but it spends far more and has gaps in access, leaving about 10% uninsured and another 20-30% under financial strain despite coverage. The system excels in innovation but lags in cost control and universal access.
Universities charged into the culture wars. Now they’re fighting to get out.
Q: So Daniel, the first question I'm going to ask you is just tell me why I'm wrong.
The host challenges the premise, and Daniel responds that politicization has grown over years, that trust erosion is real, but the crisis is not solely a recent development and requires a multi-pronged approach including clear purpose, neutral standards, and active cultivation of a culture that welcomes diverse viewpoints.
How America keeps reinventing itself
Q: What are the biggest gaps to enable reinvention in the U.S.?
The guest cites a mix of supply chain, labor, permitting, and infrastructure bottlenecks, plus the need for a coordinated but not overly centralized approach to mobilize capabilities across defense, energy, and manufacturing.
How America keeps reinventing itself
Q: What does American dynamism look like in practice?
Keil explains dynamism as the ability to reconfigure quickly, finance large-scale investments, and shift toward new technologies and opportunities, rather than sticking to a traditional five-year plan.
