Inside Many Shades of ALS: An Intimate Roundtable
Q: What are you dying to tell us, Perfecto?
I am dying to tell you that I am here. Call me, text me, email me.
Sam Cunningham: Trusting Your Body, Finding Your Voice, Facing ALS at 35
Q: What has the social and professional impact been like, and how have you navigated relationships and work?
Friendships and coworker dynamics changed; some ghosted, others surprised and stepped up. My employer supported remote work and even sponsored an ALS walk, showing that meaningful work and community support can endure and adapt to new realities.
Sam Cunningham: Trusting Your Body, Finding Your Voice, Facing ALS at 35
Q: Can you walk us through the timeline from first symptoms to diagnosis and what stood out to you during that process?
I noticed leg sluggishness and cramps first, then cramps and twitching spread to other limbs over years. Many doctors offered different explanations, but a thorough, data-rich evaluation finally confirmed motor neuron disease, which was both terrifying and validating after years of uncertainty.
Eric Paslay on “Come Into Our World,” a Song for ALS Awareness
Q: Do you have a universal message that you want people to know through your art?
Eric emphasizes that since none of us choose where we're born, we should choose to love everyone regardless of their circumstances.
