軍楽隊調的な第一楽章とは大きく異なり、この第二楽章は対位法を巧みに用いながら、トランペットが3本とも弱音器を使用して木管楽器的な音像を奏でるように書かれていたりと、古典的な形式を踏襲しながらも、独自かつ多様性あるサウンドを追求しているような印象があります。

今週から4回にわたってアルベール・ルーセル作曲の『交響曲第三番』をお届けします。
音楽家としての才を認められながら、海軍士官学校に進み、従軍の後にスカラカントゥルムで作曲を学んだという変わった経歴の持ち主のルーセル。
そのためか、この『交響曲第三番』は、同時代のドビュッシーの横に広がるような作品とは全く異なり、縦の線が強調されたいわば「軍楽隊調」の曲となっています。
ただ、かちっとした音楽の中にも、綺麗な旋律がところどころ顔の覗かし、メランコリックな気持ちにさせてくれる不思議な作品です。 more
若くして才能を見出されたジョルジュ・ビゼー『子ども遊び』の2回目です。
原題は『小組曲』というだけにオーケストラは小編成ですが、打楽器が多く用いられていたり、扱いが厄介であったホルンを自在に使いこなしたりと、多彩な楽器編成の管弦作品となっています。
短い曲の中には、ビゼー独特の「変化球的」な巧みな転調が用いられ、音楽の表情がさまざまに移り変わる様子が感じられます。これが後にビゼーの代表作となるオペラ『カルメン』で見事に結晶化されるのです。

若くして才能を見出されたジョルジュ・ビゼー『子ども遊び』をご紹介します。
もともとは12曲からなるピアノ連弾曲だったものを、ビゼー自身が5曲を選んで編曲したのがこの作品です。
ちなみに、ピアノ連弾曲はビゼーの妻、ジュヌヴィエーヴの従兄弟の娘マルグリットちゃんと、ジュヌヴィエーヴの友人の娘のファニーちゃんに献呈されています。

フランスの曲はあまり馴染みがないのですが聞いていて美しい曲が多く気持ちがいいです。ドビュッシーの亡き王女のパバーヌは所属しているアマオケで弾いたのですが、私には小節を超えた音符が多く難しかったです。
でもそれを克服し、そこから出てくる音は本当に美しい。
