現存はしていないものの、ジャン＝アントワーヌ・ワトーの絵画からインスピレーションを得て作曲したと言われています。ちなみに同名の歌曲『月の光』はベルレーヌの詩に曲をつけたものです。

先週に続き、クロード・ドビュッシー作曲の『ベルガマスク組曲』から第2曲」「メヌエット」をお届けします。
ワルツもメヌエットも同じ三拍子。でも、この作品の場合はヘミオレが駆使されていて、三拍子らしからぬ三拍子となっていて、ドビュッシー独自のサウンドが奏でられます。
「ベルガマスク(Bergamasque)」とは、イタリア北部の都市「ベルガモ(Bergamo)」にちなみ、「ベルガモの」または「ベルガモ風の」という意味で、16～17世紀頃の北イタリアで生まれた素朴な「ベルガモ舞曲」を指します。 more

1890年に作曲を開始してから15年を経てようやく完成をみたこの作品は、4曲から構成されていて、それぞれが独立していて異なる性格を持っています。
ドビュッシーにとって、その前年の1889年は、パリ万博で初めてガムランを聴いたり、バイロイトにワーグナー詣に行ったり、あるいはフォン・メック夫人と一緒にロシアまで旅行したりと、音楽的な知識を深め、また様々な見聞を広げることとなった年で、作風に豊かさをもたらすきっかけになったに... more
ガブリエル・フォーレ作曲の組曲『ドリー』の最終回は、第6曲の「スペインの踊り」をお届けします。
当時シャブリエが作曲した「スペイン」が大成功し、その作品へのオマージュを捧げるためにフォーレが書いたのがこの曲です。
ここでもやはり、ギリシャ語で「1.5」や「二分の三」を意味するヘミオレという技法を用いて、4分の三拍子と8分の六拍子を組み合わせ、フォーレは躍動感あるサウンドを上手に生み出しています。

フランスの曲はあまり馴染みがないのですが聞いていて美しい曲が多く気持ちがいいです。ドビュッシーの亡き王女のパバーヌは所属しているアマオケで弾いたのですが、私には小節を超えた音符が多く難しかったです。
でもそれを克服し、そこから出てくる音は本当に美しい。
