How Wild hits trails around the country, exploring the meaning of wilderness. A century ago, the U.S. set aside the first official wilderness. You'll hear stories from rangers, scientists, hikers, environmentalists, and Tribal leaders as they grapple with the realities of wilderness on a changing planet, and whether the concept of "wilderness" has ever really existed.

  • I'm lost...

This podcast was recommended by Apple Podcasts as a "relaxing listen". I understand the love of wilderness, but this podcast took a wild leap off Controversy Cliff within the first minutes. Maybe my expectations were off-base, but it wasn't the joyful ode to Wilderness I was hoping for.

  • Wilderness episode

Wildness episode I would say is off base as someone who has actually worked for the forest service and in wilderness areas. It sounds like a first semester college report where the energy is there, the research is there, but the connections and critical thinking have linked things that aren’t quite the correct conclusions. The conclusion is from a very specific point of view and that is valid. But it lacks actually talking with land managers and exist in its own bubble of critical race theory. I... more

  • Wild Conjecture

I listened to the episode on Solitude and was somewhat enjoying it until the script went off on some “wild” conjecture of what solitude is, how solitude was defined, and who solitude is for. The definition of solitude does not change based on anyone’s ethnicity. Everyone needs solitude. Everyone needs to rejoice in solitude. Such rejoicing breaks out in exuberance sometimes.
