I’ve always loved this podcast until recently. I’ve sensed a decline in the quality of the guests. The extraordinarily vulgar and ignorant commentator Fleur Meston is a case in point. She has no sophisticated sense of who the Holy Father is. She rants and raves that he cannot interpret the meaning of the scriptures. I suppose that’s to be left to the genius of social media, The View, and other trashy uneducated brats rather than the successors to the apostles. Scripture and Tradition means Apos... more

  • Latest episode on the Anglican communion

It felt like a sneering attitude to genuine theological dispute. Take on African churches not a good look in particular. Not what I expected at all.

Could have been so much better if both sides fairly represented. Have another go as there are interesting things to be said.

  • Shame you can’t hear the guest

I was listening to this podcast on full volume (I don’t have a hearing problem) and I couldn’t hear Rev’d Marcus Walker. He swallows his words.

It got marginally better towards the end but should be looked into.

  • Utterly facile, biased journalism

My goodness this is a ridiculous little podcast. Utterly biased towards more ultra conservative Catholics, repugnant in its really not even veiled hatred for anything or anyone associated with the late Pope Francis’s pontificate. Pathetic in its childish fetishisation of the Tridentine Mass. Only listened to a couple of episodes. Don’t expect to listen to many more.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Michael Gove on why the Pope's AI intervention shames our politicians
Q: What should be our immediate response to AI-driven economic disruption?
The guest argues for preparing the ground now with clear policy signals: explain coming changes, challenge institutions to adapt, protect workers, and foster competition and pluralism rather than relying on a static liberal or state-directed model.
Michael Gove on why the Pope's AI intervention shames our politicians
Q: You've read the whole encyclical. How do you think he did?
The guest suggests the Pope showed intellectual confidence and coherence, offering a thoughtful, comprehensive analysis, while drawing a dignified distinction between human and machine intelligence and outlining the moral limits of AI.
How homosexuality has torn apart the United Methodist Church
Q: Could you give us an account of the tremendous storm that had overtaken the Methodist Church in America over the last few years?
It's the same storm that has divided other mainline denominations; Methodists particularly saw major division over sexuality, leading to departures and realignments as congregations chose new affiliations while attempting to protect church properties.
How would you sell Christianity today? with Rory Sutherland
Q: Should sermons be shorter?
Rory argues that shorter sermons can help sustain attention and reduce drift, and that the increase in engagement comes from a balance of clarity and brevity, suggesting churches experiment with time and format to maximize impact.
The truth about the quiet revival – with grounds for optimism
Q: Was there ever a quiet revival?
Justin Brierley doubts the idea of a genuine revival, noting that while certain statistics suggested increased churchgoing among young people, the data were contested and ultimately retracted due to methodological flaws; he emphasizes looking for tangible, on-the-ground signs of engagement rather than sensational headlines.
