  • Love these conversations!

I wish I had a podcast like this when I began deconstructing my faith and first realized I was queer. I love hearing all the stories of survival and healing from different guests, and how they found their way to community and authenticity.

    So glad this podcast exists!

  • Relatable, Loving and Caring

I love the focus on just listening to people just like me and hearing differently people bravely left what was hurting them or reclaimed what they loved about their experience growing up in the church.

I will say I think my favorite is listening to the chemistry between Elise and Kari and their clear love and joy with each other. Keep it up!

  • Hopeful!

This is a beautiful show that brings hope to a truly sketchy time. I am grateful for everyone involved in making it. As someone who is also recovering from christianity, i love hearing other people overcome or reimagine the mythology to an empowering story. Holding on the bright parts of faith while releasing the negative is a really powerful move. Lucifer bless the LGBTQIA+

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Queer Mennonite Preacher Reclaims Christianity from Evangelical Toxicity | Stephen Lowe
Q: What would you say to a queer person in the pews who is struggling to reconcile queer identity with faith?
You are good enough, deeply loved, and you belong in the community as you are; the divine spark is within you, and you deserve space to grow and be affirmed without having to perform or justify yourself.
Faith, Sexuality & Sobriety: A Former Missionary's Story | Angela
Q: What happened after you came out?
Coming out ended some relationships but also clarified who remained supportive; going through rehab and embracing sobriety became central, and family eventually embraced the authentic self.
Faith, Sexuality & Sobriety: A Former Missionary's Story | Angela
Q: What was training like for you?
The training was intense, often overwhelming, with cultural caricatures and high-stress simulations; it emphasized being a link in a chain to bring people to belief rather than acting as saviors, though some aspects felt problematic.
Faith, Sexuality & Sobriety: A Former Missionary's Story | Angela
Q: How did you get into missions?
I went on an initial short-term trip, and despite the hardship, I continued with a small group and internship to learn the work and language, aiming to offer hope and community rather than force beliefs.
James Dobson, Purity Culture & Church Abuse: How Evangelical Parenting Groomed a Generation
Q: If you could go back in time to baby you in the church pews, what words of wisdom or encouragement would you impart upon yourself?
You get to be happy. You end up being really happy, with a supportive partner, great friends, wonderful kids, and the world keeps going even when it feels like it might end; you deserve to enjoy parts of it and to live fully as your true self.
