  • Not just for coaches

Players, parents and even fans can learn a lot from this show. I’ve listened ti approx 10 episodes so far, hardly know any of the guests but every single ep has been chalk full of great info. New twists on old ideas, large concepts and minute details.

And not just for hockey coaches, I think coaches of all sports can absorb useful concepts from every episode, too. Keep it up fellas!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jack Han (Hockey Tactics 2026)
Q: What do you see as next for tactics in the NHL and at different levels of play?
He predicts a continued emphasis on space, readability of reads at all levels, and strategic use of three-on-three and goaltender involvement to gain advantages, along with a belief in upgrading and evolving teams rather than tearing them down.
Jack Han (Hockey Tactics 2026)
Q: So Jack, welcome to the show. What recent developments in hockey tactics have you found most intriguing?
Jack discusses evolving special-teams structures like the diamond versus wedge formations, the shift back toward diamond play as teams adapt, and the broader idea that space creation and speed of execution are becoming more valuable than brute force alone.
Hockey Psychology (Anthony)
Q: Who's your favorite player to watch in the game and why?
I have a wide swath of players I like to watch for different reasons, but I appreciate players like Mark Kastelic for their effectiveness despite a lack of elite skills.
Jon Stea
Q: What separates a good learner from a bad learner?
A good learner is intentional and focuses not only on what's important but also maintains a broad picture in mind while acquiring new skills and adapting to challenges.
Larry Lauer
Q: What are the main mental skills that high-end players struggle with?
High-end players often struggle with focus, managing stress, and self-talk, especially if they haven't had to refine those skills previously.
