Kidnapping Ukrainian Children: The Story Behind One of Russia's Worst War Crimes
Q: What do we actually mean by kidnapping in this context, and how is it different from the common US understanding?
Kidnapping in this context refers to the forced removal of Ukrainian children from Ukrainian territory to Russia or occupied areas, often under the guise of protection or evacuation, but it centers on the seizure of children and the severing of their ties to their homeland, with many cases involving forced transfers, relocation, and attempts to erase their identities.
Russia is Losing at the Front: Ukraine Takes Back the Technological Edge
Q: Giorgio, what explains the shift from a linear front to a volume and how does that change tactics on the ground?
The transformation is driven by drones, aerial reconnaissance, and underground logistics; it creates multi-dimensional front lines that break traditional one-dimensional offensives, forcing both sides to adapt with layered defense and distributed attacks.
Documenting the horrors of Russia's invasion - a chat with the head of the UN Human Rights Mission in Ukraine
Q: How does the UN verify casualty and rights abuse claims in occupied territories with limited access?
Verification relies on interviews with displaced persons in government-controlled areas, a satellite office in Moldova, secure communications with people inside occupied territory, and visits to transit points where affected people are processed; this triangulation helps corroborate accounts despite access challenges.
Documenting the horrors of Russia's invasion - a chat with the head of the UN Human Rights Mission in Ukraine
Q: What are the primary factors driving the surge in civilian casualties in 2025 and into 2026?
Long-range weapon saturation, including thousands of drones and missiles in single attacks, plus a rise in short-range FPV drones near front lines, are the main drivers, leading to higher civilian casualties in areas previously less affected.
Building Superhumans: Olga Rudnieva on Turning Trauma into Triumph in Ukraine
Q: In a quick word, what would you say Superhumans Center means to an international audience?
We are the World Trauma Center with the most experience in Europe and soon the world, built around a holistic approach that treats the person, not just the injuries, and aims to restore identity, purpose, and active participation in life.
