  • Perfect Daily “Scoop” 🍦of News

I’ve been trying to avoid watching a bunch of News because it’s so gosh darn terrible lately, and it’s easy to get sucked in. I found this Podcast when it first launched, and it’s really a perfect, easy, quick insight to what’s going on. Yaz is a great interviewer, simply states facts, and does a great job at breaking everything down in a purposeful and meaningful way. I will say my favorite part is her silly puns and outros. Great podcast!

  • Excellent Daily News Fix

I am a huge fan of this podcast - I never miss an episode. I have been particularly impressed with their coverage of all things Middle East, especially with Yasmin’s recent trip to Lebanon. I appreciate her impeccable reporting, her wit and her humor. Equally impressive are the journalists reporting from the field.

  • Good and too long

When I first signed up I was looking for a 15 minute news recap - and now episodes are approaching 30 minutes. It’s good info, but I was drawn in initially because I thought it might be like the old radio network news from back in the day.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Supreme Court Edition, Trump v. Slaughter, Trump v Cook: Who can POTUS terminate?
Q: Why is the single-director CFPB a central issue compared to multi-member agencies?
A single director creates a more direct line of control for the president, whereas multi-member commissions diffuse power and could complicate presidential removal, which the Court had to consider in applying the Myers or Humphrey's Executor precedents.
Supreme Court Edition, Trump v. Slaughter, Trump v Cook: Who can POTUS terminate?
Q: What was the main goal of the CFPB's structure argument before the Court?
The argument sought to show that insulating the CFPB from presidential removal power was unconstitutional, aiming to allow the president to remove the agency head to ensure accountability, which could impact how the agency functions.
U.S. and Iran Ramp Up Rhetoric; Trump Endorsement's Impact on Texas Election
Q: How might Paxton's endorsement affect his odds in a broader general election against a candidate like James Talarico?
Endorsements could energize core Trump voters to turnout but may also complicate fundraising and turnout in other red states; the overall effect depends on Paxton's ability to mobilize loyalists and manage controversies.
U.S. and Iran Ramp Up Rhetoric; Trump Endorsement's Impact on Texas Election
Q: Why did President Trump decide to endorse Ken Paxton in the Texas runoff instead of John Cornyn?
He reportedly weighed polling data showing Paxton leading in the runoff and chose what he perceived as the winning horse, despite Paxton's baggage and impeachment history.
Supreme Court Edition, Chatrie v. United States: Can police use cellphone location data to catch suspects?
Q: How does the Carpenter precedent influence the Chatrie case and potential outcomes?
Carpenter established that obtaining location data from third parties implicates a Fourth Amendment search, requiring a warrant for detailed, long-term data. Chatrie tests whether this applies to shorter, but still precise, geofence data and whether warrants can be narrowly tailored to protect privacy while addressing crime.
