Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP 2: Professor John Nolan - Macular Degeneration And The Link To Alzheimers
Q: What does the science allow you to tell me today about nutrition and reducing risk to Alzheimer's? And then more importantly or equally importantly, I suppose, is what can't you tell me yet?
Nolan says nutrition and specific nutrients may support risk reduction and quality of life, but supplements do not cure Alzheimer's disease. He describes the evidence as promising and emphasizes that nutritional interventions are not replacements for medical care.
EP 2: Professor John Nolan - Macular Degeneration And The Link To Alzheimers
Q: Should I be already thinking about protecting my macula, or do we only need to start caring about this whenever our vision starts to go wrong?
Nolan advocates early prevention rather than waiting for symptoms. He says carotenoid-rich foods can be part of a preventive approach throughout life, while noting that individual supplement decisions may differ.
EP3: Dr Daniel Jones – Inflammation. The Hidden Driver Of Chronic Disease
Q: How does it manifest, I suppose? Maybe in some of the symptoms that we ordinarily might put down to something else, Daniel, rather than actually thinking, God, this could be this systemic inflammation.
Jones says symptoms can develop gradually and include persistent fatigue, midday energy slumps, difficulty recalling words, poor sleep, waking unrefreshed, bloating and other digestive problems. He advises taking such changes seriously and supporting health with basics such as nutrition.
EP3: Dr Daniel Jones – Inflammation. The Hidden Driver Of Chronic Disease
Q: What's happening in our bodies, and what is driving this systemic inflammation?
Jones describes inflammation as an immune alarm response. In acute inflammation it helps repair a specific injury, while chronic systemic inflammation can persist or spread through interconnected body systems, potentially causing damage and loss of function.
