  • Consequential and Comical

Informative, funny, disarming and easy to digest. Being the ball of anxiety I am, I REALLY appreciate Laurel’s brand of expertise with a side of humor. She really breaks things down in a way that anyone can understand AND not lose their minds over. I think this pod is going to be incredibly important and we move through a new normal where our government is attempts to replace and silence public health experts.

  • Guests be Sus - I have been a fan of (and following) Laurel since the pre-pandi days when she was known as KingGutterBaby. She's whip smart + absolutely on it - I still believe she is all of that.

My issue is with the guests - blatently incorrect information should be edited out. The guest on the most recent episode (re: supplements + wellness), proported a specific MD to be a grifter, when that is wholly false.

I tried to contact the show to no avail. Subscribe at your own risk. :(

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

CTE
Q: What can be done now to reduce risk for young athletes?
Adopt youth-appropriate return-to-play protocols, reduce repetitive head impacts in practice and play (e.g., limits on headers in soccer, no heading for kids under 14), and improve awareness and prevention culture among coaches and parents.
CTE
Q: How is CTE diagnosed in living people, and what are the prospects for early testing?
Researchers are developing symptom-based criteria (Traumatic Encephalopathy Syndrome) and exploring biomarkers and PET/blood tests, but a reliable living diagnostic toolkit is still in development; early tests could enable clinical trials and symptom management.
CTE
Q: What is CTE and how does it differ from concussions?
CTE is a progressive neurodegenerative disease linked to repeated head impacts, whereas concussions are acute injuries with identifiable symptoms; CTE can develop without a single concussion and is currently diagnosed only postmortem, though researchers are pursuing living-diagnosis criteria.
Immigration Enforcement and Public Health

Detention conditions directly affect health for detainees and staff, and community health is linked to detainee health; ensuring proper care safeguards public health as a whole.
Immigration Enforcement and Public Health
Q: Can you talk about Physicians for Human Rights and the focus of that work?
PHR investigates health-related human rights abuses, produces accessible reports for press and policy makers, and aims to push policy changes to improve health outcomes for detained populations.
