But maybe need to expand researching subjects they talk about in relation to video games. Also some hosts get TOO LOUD about their opinions under the guise of a “lively conversation”. Please stop that.
Less Australian guy.
It’s hard to take someone who pronounces Mario as MAYrio seriously as a games journalist.
Well.... Heard some good things about this podcast. Listened and content was pretty good and thought I'd for sure be sticking around. Until I got about halfway through the first episode and realized it's yet another podcast that like to make strong political statements COMPLETELY unrelated to the content.
It doesn't matter whether I agree with the statements or not. They just have no place in the content.
Curiously soothing. The VG knowledge here is truly impressive.
Been listening to this podcast for years now and they've done a great job of steadily improving without losing their original feel but speaking of a "losing feeling"...
I'd like to nominate (Jurassic Park) Trespasser for the PC. It's a terrible game with interesting ideas and I'd like to hear HG101 complain about it at length only to struggle to give it a ranking as they weigh its intent vs its execution (a frequent and highly enjoyable staple of the podcast)
I’ve been listening off and on to this podcast for years and it always invigorates me to try new games I haven’t played before or revisit classics. All the hosts provide a unique perspective on games and have their strengths and weaknesses toward different genres. I’m glad this exists as a fan of obscure and niche video games.
I nominate g-taste for the ps2!

A panel-driven show that ranks and discusses a broad spectrum of classic and niche video games nominated by listeners. Episodes blend deep-dive history, design analysis, translation/localization stories, and personal anecdotes, often pairing two or more games in a single episode to explore origins, technical constraints, and cultural impact. A standout is the mix of long-running ranking segments with lively banter, guest contributions, and a willingness to cover obscure titles alongside marquee releases, making it a rich resource for retro and cult game enthusiasts as well as industry historians. The format tends to emphasize archival context, gameplay mechanics, and the evolving canon of notable titles across eras, with a distinctive commu... more
