  • Basically, an advertising platform for pharmaceutical companies

Disbalanced presentation of pharmaceutical data. Guests can claim anything without critics by the creators. Seems commentators don‘t know anything about the presented trials. Best example Freedland claiming Enza Mono is better tolerated than ADT. Poor performance of Declan Murphy and Renu Eapen. Did you look at the data?

  • Patting the shark

As a pharma industry colleague we claim to be patient focussed, but do we really know how the patients on our treatments are feeling and thinking? Unless you have walked in someone else’s shoes, you really don’t know. I thought this podcast was excellent! I loved the acronym MEDS, so important for people living with a range of cancers. Thank you Tim Baker for sharing your story. I’m going to buy the book!

  • Great podcast to help keep up to date

Really enjoy GU casts! Recommended by my consultant and now listen regularly on my commutes. Really up to date with interesting topics. Informal format that makes sometimes complex discussion easier to follow. Would highly recommend for anyone interested in urology

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Testis cancer and miR-371 - all you need to know!
Q: What is the challenge with standardizing the assay across laboratories?
Different labs use different cutoffs and assays, making standardization difficult; there is ongoing work to achieve widespread accreditation and consistent interpretation.
Testis cancer and miR-371 - all you need to know!
Q: How soon after orchidectomy is microRNA-371 testing performed in your studies?
Testing was done within six weeks, and in some cases within four days, to ensure timely prognostication and guide follow-up decisions.
Berlin Masterclass | Advanced prostate cancer
Q: Can you summarize what the New England Journal paper showed and how it translates to patient care?
The paper demonstrated a substantial, unprecedented overall survival benefit when combining ARPI with ADT versus ADT alone in high-risk BCR patients, driven by early eligibility, careful patient selection, and effective drug choices, which supports adopting this combination in appropriate patients.
Did PROTEUS just change Urology??
Q: How might these results influence clinical practice and future trials?
Given the positive endpoints and the integration of PSMA-PET into endpoints, there is potential for adoption of intensified hormonal therapy in select high-risk patients, with careful consideration of control arms in studies and the possibility of future adjuvant strategies guided by tissue biomarkers like residual cancer burden. Regulatory and guideline bodies will determine adoption timelines, and there is expectation of more phase 3 studies exploring similar approaches and combinations.
Did PROTEUS just change Urology??
Q: First of all, what was Proteus, and what were the primary endpoints?
Proteus was a randomized, blinded phase 3-like trial in high-risk localized prostate cancer comparing intensified androgen pathway inhibition plus ADT versus ADT alone, with six months of preoperative therapy and six months post-prostatectomy. The co-primary endpoints were major pathologic response (PCR MRD) and metastasis-free survival (MFS), using both PSMA-PET and conventional imaging in the assessment.
