  • Excellent

I am native Austinite, but have lived elsewhere for most of my life. That said, I returned often, and witnessed the city’s extraordinary growth, and the constant controversy surrounding it. Not until listening to this podcast had I really had a handle on the larger context behind the daily stories. “Growth Machine” is a portrait of one American city, but it accurately and engagingly describes the forces shaping many if not most American cities.

  • For new and old Austinites

I’ve been in Austin for about 13 years and in the past 5 have had so many questions about Austin’s growth—many of which begin with WHY. Audrey and the team at KUT have done a wonderful job so far of begin to explore how Austin got to be where it is and why growth seems to be so challenging for one of the 10th largest cities in the US.
