  • Great podcast!

I love this podcast, it gives so much insight and nuance to especially polygamy and ”mormons”, but also other sects, religions and cultures. Sam and Melissa are knowledgeable, balanced people who share their knowledge but also are transparent about when the do not know something and that is so valuable and important too. Keep up the great podcasting! 😊

  • Thank you for exposing the horrors of polygamy

I grew up in the Episcopal Church, so I was unaware of the existence of sects like the Mormon Church and the FLDS, but I’m a very curious woman, and I’ve learned a lot about other less liberal sects of Christianity over the years! The things that I’ve discovered are very disturbing at times, and those things have made me glad that I don’t believe, and that i didn’t have to deal with the kinds of things that the two of you have!

Q: So what do you feel like was the turning point between your hatred for him and then like final submission to, okay, this is my life. This is, I'm going to submit to him.
The turning point emerged as the survivor describes growing power in the leader and the increasing sense that there was no backup against him, culminating in the realization that submission was no longer viable, followed by a difficult period of coercion that eventually gave way to cautious resistance and a search for personal meaning beyond the control.
