Nice moments, but it’s increasingly populated by scolds. The Top 20 Sitcoms was a nadir - witness recent cheap, tired digs at (the brave, brilliant) Graham Linehan, Reform and - right-on, kids! - *Margaret Thatcher*. Then a phlegmy contributor accuses a particular show of ‘disappearing up its own arse’ … hmmm. If it wasn’t so sad, it would be funny …
We’ve nothing but great, steaming heaps of admiration to deposit over the hard work that clearly goes into this admirable and reliably-weekly effort. The host obviously has the contacts, and evidently knows his comedy, even if the latter is reflected only rarely in his quiet, somewhat withdrawn and sweetly mirthless delivery. This podcast series is one of the best i know. I am a Goons lover from Holland and for many years i like to get into the world of Goon humor and listen to old shows.
Our host Tyler does a brilliant job with analyzing this unique humor and invites very interesting people who are into the Goons.
Every time i listen to an episode i feel that i m back in a world i love, full of Spike humor and
silly but very clever voices from Peter, Harry and Spike himself.
For me it s always a joy to know that ... more

Listeners tune in for thoughtful, humor-forward explorations of classic British comedy, with a steady focus on The Goons and their postwar peers. Episodes typically dissect era-defining figures (Milligan, Sellers, Secombe, Bentine) along with related acts (Monty Python, Hancock, Carry On) and cross-cut with music, film, and cultural history. Guests often bring deep expertise or nostalgia, and the show regularly connects archival material to modern perspectives, offering both critical analysis and entertaining anecdotes. A standout aspect is the podcast's willingness to broaden beyond The Goons into related cultural touchpoints, making it appealing to fans of mid-20th-century humor and its lasting influence.
