  • Fascinating!

I listened to the episode “how to be mindful about our brains” and “your phone is watching you”. Both episodes were fascinating and informative. The conversational style makes it easy to listen to and the curious, honest questions - that I was already thinking, made listening, captivating. I plan to listen more! Thank you for your work, Gwendolyn and Rudy!

  • Feb 1 / Thinking Clearly -

Wow, what a great podcast. What a great slow down and think exercise. Great input from Rudy and Gwendolyn.

It’s not very often anymore that podcast or media don’t try to hype things. Here’s the exact opposite of diving down into the underneath the surface and getting into how and why we think the way we do. I loved it.

Encore: The Philosophy of Star Wars. Eastern Wisdom, Attachment, and the Search for Happiness
Q: What is the role of death and immortality in Star Wars from an Eastern viewpoint?
Death is seen as a natural part of life and a transition within a larger universal consciousness, with Jedi immortality as a metaphor for continuity beyond physical life; this contrasts with Western materialist views.
Introduction to Philosophy and Critical Thinking: Bill Tomlinson on Reasoning, Paradox, and AI as a Tool for Thinking
Q: How do you address the concern that AI might do all the thinking for students or reduce their own cognitive effort?
You can structure activities where students critique AI outputs, justify their own positions, or use AI-generated statements as the basis for close examination and argumentation, ensuring students actively engage and reason rather than imitate.
Introduction to Philosophy and Critical Thinking: Bill Tomlinson on Reasoning, Paradox, and AI as a Tool for Thinking
Q: Bill, what inspired this book that is really, like I said, it's gold. Why did you choose to explore AI dialogues as a teaching tool for philosophy?
The idea was to make philosophy approachable and practical for students by showing how dialogue, argument structure, and critical thinking operate in real time, even with AI. The AI serves as a mirror that can reveal ambiguities in questions and help expand the discussion rather than replace human thinking.
The Slow Death of Local News and Its Impact on Critical Thinking
Q: What defines good journalism in an era of misinformation and 'fake news' claims, and how should audiences assess credibility?
She emphasizes transparent corrections, clear sourcing, conservative quoting, avoiding sensationalism, and editors guiding reporters; credibility comes from careful attribution, accountability, and balancing coverage to help readers understand complex local issues.
Your Phone Is Watching You: Privacy, Surveillance, and the Law with Prof. Andrew Guthrie Ferguson
Q: Do you see this evolving toward predictive policing and pre-crime, and how should society respond?
Ferguson discusses the progression of predictive policing, its risks, and the need for stronger safeguards and warrants, highlighting that technology outpaces law and policy.
