Across the world people were presented with what appeared to be a heart-breaking but straightforward story of a father and his motherless daughter struggling to get to Britain. But behind those headlines lay a far more sinister truth. BBC Journalist Sue Mitchell and former soldier Rob Lawrie discover that the little girl appears to have simply vanished. Can they find her in time?

Second podcast by Sue Mitchell I’ve heard and second time by the end it’s clear Sue Mitchell is not actually ever addressing her feelings towards immigrants but whenever she discusses it or speaks to someone she seems openly aggressive. The way she confronts Reza at the end (conveniently without the more level headed heart Rob Lawrie present) was a deeply unpleasant way to approach an immigrant even if he did wrong. Just so “ugh he’s an economic migrant, not a refugee - YUCK” vibes. I really hat... more
Whilst I admire the humanitarian kindness shown, this series does raise concerns over the lack of control of illegal immigration. Single men travelling with kids, fictitious past lives, underage marriage, personally I feel these are matters of concern.
I still thing the daughter would and should be with her mother as the father has a dubious character.
This is gripping and sad and I listened to all in the space of 24 hours! Rob (the hero) does Leeds and his family proud and Sue is equally dedicated. I know I speak for many when I ask for an update on the family.
Sue really gets on my nerves in the later episodes and doesn’t respect or understand the complexities of the migrant crisis.
She keeps pushing and says it is to tell his story but she keeps berating him, not even trying to understand and just pushing and pushing him telling him “what’s good for him”. It’s unethical and full of leading questions vs more open questions to try to actually understand. Rob is great but Sue goes off the rails and ruins the whole podcast. I hope she gets sued.
What stood out to me the most was the kindness and selflessness Rob dedicates to helping people. He truly cares about this and I know he’s not the only one out there but you don’t hear about these stories enough. It was very well told and produced by Sue, no repetitiveness and short episodes, I think Sue also went above and beyond to support the family.
I can’t help but feel sad for the children and women impacted, they suffer the most and I can’t help but wonder where all the women are when you... more
