Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Fast Track to Plastic Surgery with Dr. Shikhar Tomur
Q: What advice do you have for medical students or residents regarding building a successful practice and managing expectations?
Be yourself, avoid ego-driven selling, and focus on clear communication with patients. Learn from experiences, embrace lifelong learning, and pace your career to maintain wellbeing—quality and patient happiness trump aggressive volume, and a sustainable approach yields long-term success.
The Fast Track to Plastic Surgery with Dr. Shikhar Tomur
Q: What drew you specifically to plastic surgery over other surgical specialties, and how did you navigate the private-practice path?
A rotation and mentorship in plastic surgery sparked the interest; after fellowship at UT Southwestern, I moved into a hybrid setting that balanced private practice with academic influence. I chose cosmetics because I enjoyed the artistic and outcome-focused aspects and found it more personally rewarding than purely reconstructive work.
The Fast Track to Plastic Surgery with Dr. Shikhar Tomur
Q: Can you walk us through your early medical education path and how you ended up in a six-year straight med program?
I entered a six-year program from high school, doing undergrad and medical school in sequence, with accelerated coursework and early patient exposure, which ultimately paved the way for a focused pivot into plastic surgery after a pivotal rotation with a prominent surgeon.
Interview Prep, PA School Acceptances, and pseudocyesis
Q: What was a unique thing about yourself asked during the interview?
I said I was a doormat, which was different from others saying they were perfectionists or too hard of workers.
Orthopedics, Business, and Baseball with Dr. Mike Milne
Q: How did you transition into medicine after being in a business career?
I was inspired by friends and had a desire to follow my childhood dream of becoming a doctor, which led me to take pre-med classes and apply to medical school.
