今年の秋のお彼岸は、9月20日から26日までです。中日（ちゅうにち）にあたる9月23日は「秋分の日」で、祖先を敬い、亡くなった人々をしのぶ日とされています。
お墓参りやお寺参りをする方も多いこの期間、「彼岸」という言葉の語源は、サンスクリット語の「パーラミター（波羅蜜多）」から来ています。これは「悟りの境地に至ること」を意味し、仏教でいう「お浄土（じょうど）」を表しています。

9月11日は、2001年にアメリカで起こった同時多発テロが発生した日です。旅客機4機がハイジャックされ、結果的に3,000人以上の命が失われました。
