2016年（平成28年）4月14日午後9時26分、そしてそのわずか2日後の16日未明。熊本を襲ったのは、観測史上類を見ない「2度の震度7」という激震でした。災害関連死を含め276名もの尊い命が失われ、家屋の倒壊や墓石の転倒など、街の景色は一変しました。震災から10年が経過した今、お寺の建物の歪みや修復された墓石を目にするたび、あの時の恐ろしさと震災の爪痕の深さを改めて思い知らされます。

🔶灌仏会の由来とルンビニの花園
4月8日は「花まつり」です。お釈迦さまのお誕生日をお祝いするこの行事は、正式には「灌仏会（かんぶつえ）」と呼ばれます。およそ2,500年前、現在のネパールにあるルンビニの花園でお生まれになったお釈迦さまを祝し、色とりどりの花で飾られた「花御堂（はなみどう）」が作られます。天から「甘露（かんろ）の雨」が降り注いだという伝承にちなみ、誕生仏の像に甘茶をかける風習が今に伝わっています。

🔶良寛和尚の辞世に見る諸行無常
江戸時代の曹洞宗の僧侶であり、歌人としても知られる良寛（りょうかん）和尚の辞世の句に「散る桜 残る桜も 散る桜」という歌があります。今を盛りと咲き誇り、枝に残っている桜も、やがては等しく散っていく。この歌は、仏教の根本的な教えである「諸行無常（しょぎょうむじょう）」を鮮やかに示しています。私たちは今、精一杯に生きていますが、同時に誰もがいつかは命を終えていく存在であることを、散りゆく桜の姿を通して良寛さんは優しく、しかし厳かに語りかけています。

🔶お釈迦さまと乳粥にみる食の原点
仏教において「食」は命の根源であり、悟りへの道とも深く関わっています。かつて過酷な苦行で命を落としかけたお釈迦さまを救ったのは、村娘スジャータが捧げた一杯の「乳粥（ちちがゆ）」でした。この供養によって体力を回復されたお釈迦さまは、極端な苦行では真の悟りを得られないと気づき、中道の教えを見出されました。乳粥という一つの料理こそが、仏教の歴史を大きく動かす原点となったのです。
