🔶日本における大学制度の変遷と起源
日本の大学の起源は、701年の「大宝律令」にまでさかのぼります。当時は貴族の子弟を対象とした官吏養成機関でしたが、その後、日本最古の総合大学といわれる「足利学校」や、弘法大師空海にゆかりのある「種智院（しゅちいん）」など、多様な教育の場が生まれました。近代に入り、明治19年の「帝国大学令」によって西洋式の大学制度が整えられ、大正7年の「大学令」を経て、現在の私立大学を含む高等教育の枠組みが確立されていきました。

🔶卍の語源と世界共通の吉兆の印
地図記号でお寺を表す「卍」は、単なる記号ではなく「万」という漢字でもあります。そのルーツはインドのサンスクリット語「スヴァスティカ」にあり、幸福や幸運を意味します。ヒンドゥー教ではヴィシュヌ神の胸の瑞毛（ずいもう）に由来し、仏教ではお釈迦さまの胸に現れた「吉兆の印」とされています。実はその歴史は極めて古く、ウクライナのメジリチ遺跡（旧石器時代）で発見されたものが最古といわれ、宗教の枠を超えて世界中で用いられてきた根源的な形なのです。

🔶浄土真宗における呼び名と学階制度
浄土真宗では、僧侶を「和尚（おしょう）」と呼ぶことは少なく、一般的には「住職」や「ご院家（ごいんげ）」、親しみを込めて「おっさん（御師さん）」などと呼びます。また、お寺の跡継ぎのことは「新発意（しんぼち）」と呼ぶ独特の習慣があります。こうした呼び名の一方で、学問を深く修めた僧侶には「学階（がっかい）」という位が授けられます。最高位の「勧学（かんがく）」やそれに次ぐ「司教（しきょう）」といった方々は、教えを導く立場として「和上（わじょう）」と敬称されます。本... more

2月15日は「涅槃会（ねはんえ）」です。これは、仏教の開祖であるお釈迦さまが入滅（にゅうめつ）、すなわちその生涯を終えられた日の法要を指します。涅槃とはサンスクリット語で「ニルヴァーナ」といい、もともとは「火を吹き消すこと」を意味します。私たちの迷いである「煩悩の火」を吹き消した悟りの境地のことであり、中国では「滅度（めつど）」とも訳されました。
