お盆を迎えるにあたり、浄土真宗で教えを喜び生き抜いた人物「妙好人（みょうこうにん）」として知られる「因幡の源左（いなば の げんざ）」こと、足利源左（あしかが げんざ）さんの生涯とその教えをご紹介します。
源左さんは天保13年（1842年）、因幡国（現在の鳥取県）にて農家を営む父・善輔さんと母・おちよさんの子として生まれました。安政6年（1859年）、全国的にコレラが大流行した際、18歳だった源左さんは父・善輔さんを40歳の若さで亡くします。激しい苦し... more

8月6日の広島、8月9日の長崎への原子爆弾投下、そして8月15日の終戦の日を迎えるにあたり、戦争と平和について改めて深く見つめ直します。第二次世界大戦において、日本全体で約310万人もの尊い命が失われました。

ハワイにおける仏教の歴史は、アメリカに併合される以前のハワイ王国時代、サトウキビ農園の労働力として渡った日本人移民の歴史と深く重なっています。
