  • These are necessary ideas

Good podcast with conversations that need to be had about what a non-capitalist future looks like.

My only criticism is the host is sometimes overly skeptical of the guests and takes the wind out of their sails a bit. Debate is good, but it should move ideas forward, not pull them back. I'd rather he let them present their vision and ask questions that take us deeper into that vision.

Kim Stanley Robinson on Real Utopian Futures
Q: Could you elaborate on your claim that science fiction is the realism of our time?
Science fiction reflects our cultural imagination about the future and, due to the acceleration of history, the present is more science fiction-like than ever, where our daily experiences resemble those imagined in stories.
Kim Stanley Robinson on Real Utopian Futures
Q: How do you see our contemporary relationship to futurity?
It's complex, as there's a growing tendency within parts of the left to view the future pessimistically, often labeling it as closed or indicative of collapse, which is not a courageous stance. The future remains open for engagement.
Rabea Berfelde on Socialisation
Q: How can people start a movement around socialization in their country?
It starts with learning from existing movements, engaging with those who have attempted similar changes, and forming a robust community of advocates.
Rabea Berfelde on Socialisation
Q: What would it mean for us today to think about a form of socialization for the 21st Century?
It would involve focusing on the reproductive sector and ensuring that socialization aims for democratization beyond mere ownership transfer.
Aaron Benanav | Beyond Capitalism I
Q: Why are both economic democracy and limited economic democracy not enough?
They fail to recognize that after capitalism, there are many potential futures, leading to the need for a democracy that allows for choices across these futures, not just administrative control.
