  • Weekly ritual

I’ve listened to Alex Kevin every week since the pandemic. Their hot takes and POVs on advertising, brand strategy and all things New York give me that boost of feeling connected to “my people” each week. Which is why I am writing this review because it’s been a couple of weeks since they dropped a new episode and I’m not even mad… excited to hear what they have cooking up there over at Center. Thanks fellas! Keep it up!

  • A Sight for ‘Saur Eyes

The guys clearly appreciate a good Barney pun (above), and therefore have outstanding taste. This podcast is Barstool without the casual racism and misogyny, and PTI without the sanctimony. Alex’s reviews of design work are honest, charitable and curious, looking to connect with a designer’s inspiration. Highly recommended. Great on YouTube too, so you can see images of the designs being discussed. (Chef’s kiss emojis all around) Well done bros!

  • I support this episode of Front and Center

Alex and Kevin discussed seeing each other at the Mets game, Cornkid ™, protein infused drinks and doing whip-its [which they didn’t know much about.] They often discuss branding and design as well and are sponsored by The Dieline the packaging hub of qualité et goût. Today was branding and design lite. I don’t mind that. Last week was incredibly funny. Funnier than today. I laughed out loud several times [also while walking around the bay]. The read of the Dunkin Pumpkin Spice Goldfish release ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Nostalgia Plug: with Jason Liebig
Q: What sparked your move from collector to consultant and TV presence?
He details the shift from archiving and sharing high-resolution scans on Flickr to collaborating with studios and networks, leveraging his deep knowledge of branding to shape authentic period details for productions like Stranger Things and Mad Men.
The Nostalgia Plug: with Jason Liebig
Q: How did you become obsessed with candy and collecting candy?
Liebig explains a trajectory from childhood collecting and building a foundation of nostalgia, through discovering a lack of available documentation, to creating a personal archive that became a professional passion, culminating in opportunities to consult on major TV projects.
Building Brands that Work: with Michelle Mattar
Q: At what point do you go from Michelle Mattar, Inc. to Practice a design studio or branding sort of practice?
She describes the shift as precipitated by opportunity, COVID timing, and a desire to scale impact, moving from a one-person operation to building a team and formalizing a studio with a cohesive methodology.
Defining Moments: with Chad Hogan
Q: What was the biggest challenge adapting to a corporate environment like Vitamin Water after Rawkus?
Navigating corporate protocols while preserving creative voice was tough; Coke-era rules required more formal processes, but the energy and passion for sport and culture kept the work authentic.
Defining Moments: with Chad Hogan
Q: How did you transition from music and skate culture into mainstream brand work?
The shift came from the opportunities at groups like The Attic and Rawkus, where high-level design work and early exposure to corporate clients allowed me to translate subculture aesthetics into accessible brand visuals and later into office design and product packaging.
