  • Host Can’t Stop Talking About Himself

I tried listening to the 7 laws of power episode, but my god, the host wouldn’t stop talking about himself. The host has lost sight of the podcast itself - guest is irrelevant, everyone is just coming to hear him talk. Here is a summarized transcript “when I was a commander” … “I am reading Plutarch” … when I rose up the ranks” … “I was successful” … “i made my own brand by wanting to help others be as smart and successful as myself” ….”when I was in command (5 more times)🤢🤢🤮

  • Review of Episode 154

This podcast really resonated with me and what I’ve experienced in the military so far. I found myself nodding my head in agreement and taking a moment to think about some insights I had never considered. LTC (R) Joe Byerly and LTC(P) Weimer create a dynamic conversation and complement each other well in a podcast format. Both podcasters provided insights from their military experience while acknowledging the limitations of the scope of that experience.

  • Not just for military folks-highly recommend!!

“From the Green Notebook” is one of the best podcasts out there today. I love listening to it on my commute to and from work, while I’m walking around the neighborhood, or even doing household chores. I love Joe’s humble, easygoing manner when he interviews his guests. These interviews aren’t just fluff pieces, however. Many of them have gold nuggets you can use in your professional and personal life even if you’re not in the military. Lastly, if you’re looking for your next book to read, Joe ca... more

Developing a Monk's Mindset with Sam Yo
Q: Who was Sam Yo's mentor at the monastery?
Sam Yo's mentor was a monk named Adhyanpur, whose teachings deeply influenced the book and Sam's approach to leadership, mindfulness, and personal growth.
The Hidden Markets Shaping Your Career with Judd Kessler
Q: What is the three E's framework, and how can it be applied to career decisions?
The three E's—Efficiency, Equity, and Ease—help you evaluate whether you're allocating time and attention efficiently, fairly, and with minimal barriers. Applying this to your career means designing your own signals and choosing roles or tasks that align with those principles while also considering your own needs.
The Hidden Markets Shaping Your Career with Judd Kessler
Q: How can someone improve their odds in a first-come, first-serve market like ticket sales or restaurant reservations?
Know what you want in advance, have a clear plan for each option, show up prepared with the right technology, and be ready to settle for a 'silver' option if the gold is unattainable. Preparation and strategic decision-making beat sheer luck.
The Hidden Markets Shaping Your Career with Judd Kessler
Q: What did you mean by hidden markets, and why do they matter in everyday life and the military?
Hidden markets are resource-allocation systems that rely on rules other than price to decide who gets what. They matter because they determine who gets opportunities like good assignments, promotions, or seats at events, often under conditions of scarcity and high demand.
Bend But Do Not Break: Rethinking the Future of the All-Volunteer Force with Jaron Wharton
Q: What was one thing Jaron thought Brigade Command would be like, and what surprised him after taking the role?
Wharton describes expecting the role to be challenging and says he found it reshaped by the need to maintain a leader-development culture; he realized he valued the people and mission more than the command itself, and that leading a highly lethal organization felt like leading a large, purposeful nonprofit.
