This podcast describes how kids in the 1970s and 80s would get excited by the mere mention of travelling in a train to anywhere be it a holiday or be it a visit to their maternal grandparents.
Every every middle class household in the 1970 and 80s had a secret ritual where daddy jee and mummy jee would leave on the family scooter to the sabzee mandi to buy vegetables and fruits for the whole week.
1975 was Popular Hindi Cinema's golden year where a lot of films found phenomenal success. This year also heralded a tectonic shift in viewers' preference.
One more little nugget from the past from my vault of memories.
Going to watch a film in the 70s was an experience like no other. It was full of feverish excitement and something the entire family looked forward to for weeks. The excitement continued before and after the watching of the film.
There is no one quite like RD who coaxed sound from any instrument or just about anything under the sun. He produced not just music but also superlative background music. Truly the king of sound.
Hare Rama Hare Krishna, produced and directed by Dev Anand was perhaps the only Hindi film based on the hippie culture and flower power revolution. The film released in December 1971.
Andaz Apna Apna which released in 1994 is considered a cult classic today, thanks to its zany, madcap spoofing that produced lots of laughter.
