  • Mainstream media

Excellent podcast. The Australia Institute provides data and analysis that should be used by mainstream media for its political, economic and social policy analysis. It seems solid answers to tax reform, the housing crisis, and other issues are not difficult if only governments would broaden their information input.

Albo it is time to turn these leaners into lifters, if they want to leave and go, good riddance. Albo its time.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jane Caro on the battle for public education
Q: What do teachers at the front line tell you about the impact of this system?
Teachers emphasize the burden of inequity, the reality of underfunded public schools, and how privatization changes the student body composition, which in turn affects the classroom environment and overall student outcomes.
Jane Caro on the battle for public education
Q: So Jane, your essay is called Rich Kid, Poor Kid, The Battle for Public Education, but you spend a lot of time on private education. Why?
The point is to highlight how private schooling, especially when publicly subsidized, shapes access and outcomes, and to argue that true equity requires rethinking funding and governance so all kids have a fair shot within a single, well-supported public system.
Antoinette Lattouf on women who win
Q: How did your mum respond to the book and what role did she play during the legal battle?
Her mother, a Lebanese refugee with limited education, provided emotional support and grounding, while the speaker reflects on the personal stakes of fighting for justice and brave leadership for her daughters.
Antoinette Lattouf on women who win
Q: How did it feel to be the story as well as the journalist reporting on others, and how did you navigate that?
She balanced being the subject of the story with her role as a journalist, using strategic media engagement and counter-narratives to push back against attacks and protect her professional integrity.
Antoinette Lattouf on women who win
Q: What were you actually dismissed for, if you can just relate that story for everyone?
The dismissal was connected to a social media post about a Human Rights Watch report on starvation as a weapon of war; management claimed it compromised impartiality, leading to a decision to remove her from the building.
