  • Ads mid sentence suck

Great content but add running literally mid sentence makes it nearly unlistenable

  • Overdue praise

I’ve been a subscriber for a few years and am finally leaving my first review of any kind on I Tunes. I enjoy Mike and Bret because they deliver useful knowledge in a calm, conversational manner. A plus is they’re not wing nuts. How’s that?

  • Intellectually Challenged Podcast

Classic example of good writers lacking intellect; the conversation is substandard and every podcast seems to devolve into political moaning or other ignorant, random banter usually around the Texas Rangers & Phillies. George Bissell leaving really hurt its content. Avoid like the plague.

Episode 343: A Very Average Podcast
Q: Which players can help in other categories without sacrificing too much average, based on your exercise with Jock Peterson, Andrew Benintendi, and Josh Lowe?
In deep leagues, look for players who can contribute power or speed while providing a reasonable batting average; for example, Jock Peterson can be useful against right-handed pitchers in platoon situations, Benintendi offers RBI and splits usefulness against righties, and Lowe (if healthy) can provide upside in power while fitting specific roster formats; the key is to tailor selections to league depth and format rather than chasing one big average hitter.
Episode 343: A Very Average Podcast
Q: How should a manager handle a team with a low batting average late in the season?
Evaluate how far behind you are in the category, and if you're truly dead last, consider accepting a finish of just one point and pivot to strengthening the other four categories; if you're only slightly behind, targeted pickups and strategic trades can help, but overall you should avoid abandoning the category entirely and instead seek players who contribute across multiple categories.
Episode 343: A Very Average Podcast
Q: What's your quick take on average versus on-base percentage in standard five-by-five leagues?
The quick take is that on-base percentage is technically a more correct category and rewards players who walk, but in practice the author (and many managers) still prefer batting average for its transparency, volatility, and how it reflects day-to-day outcomes; the best approach is to acknowledge the strengths of each while leaning toward batting average for more exciting in-season movement.
