  • Fix This 101

This podcast used to be a reliable source for Do It Yourself homeowners to find answers. Seems lately this program has evolved into more of a variety talk show filled with personal anecdotes rather than fix it solutions and the call-in questions have been even less frequent.

  • Show use to be good

I use to listen the show every week years ago when they provide you more often with more valuable information before the show introduced the lady that talks way too much about herself and stories that don’t add too much value sometimes and I don’t appreciate that she kind interrupt the hosts frequently. Nothing wrong with her in the show just I wish she could let folks finish their sentences and she takes too much time of the program to herself.

  • Show use to be good

Lady talk too much about herself and other irrelavant things imo. If she could add things of value to the show I would listen the show again. Thanks for sharing knowledge Mr. Jeff.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Fix It 101 | Windows and Doors
Q: What is the correct order of flashing around a window during installation?
The correct sequence is to install house wrap first, then pan flashing, followed by the sides, bottom, and finally the top, ensuring a continuous, sealed assembly that prevents water intrusion.
Fix It 101 | Windows and Doors
Q: How do you measure a window to decide what size to order?
You start by choosing the window type that fits the opening and then verify the rough opening dimensions, considering brick or stucco detailing and whether a fin or nailing flange is involved; precise measurements are checked with the window representative and often involve adjusting the opening to ensure a proper fit.
Fix It 101 | Back in the Saddle
Q: What should a homeowner do first when they notice water leaking into the house from the roof?
Call a licensed roofer to assess the source, possibly tarp the roof to prevent further damage, and consider insurance guidance if there is significant damage.
Fix It 101 | Weatherizing Your Water Pipes
Q: What is the simplest test to determine if a leak is inside or outside the house?
Turn off the water meter, install a pressure gauge on an outside spigot, and observe whether the pressure holds or diminishes; if it holds, the leak is inside; if it drops, the leak is on your side.
Fix It 101 | Sewer Scopes and Fixing Broken Pipes
Q: What are the main repair options for a compromised sewer line?
The main options are traditional pipe replacement (which can be very disruptive and expensive), relining or sleeving to create a new pipe inside the old one, and pipe bursting for longer straight runs, which minimizes digging and can result in a brand-new pipe.
