  • Fix This 101

This podcast used to be a reliable source for Do It Yourself homeowners to find answers. Seems lately this program has evolved into more of a variety talk show filled with personal anecdotes rather than fix it solutions and the call-in questions have been even less frequent.

  • Show use to be good

I use to listen the show every week years ago when they provide you more often with more valuable information before the show introduced the lady that talks way too much about herself and stories that don’t add too much value sometimes and I don’t appreciate that she kind interrupt the hosts frequently. Nothing wrong with her in the show just I wish she could let folks finish their sentences and she takes too much time of the program to herself.

  • Show use to be good

Lady talk too much about herself and other irrelavant things imo. If she could add things of value to the show I would listen the show again. Thanks for sharing knowledge Mr. Jeff.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Fix It 101 | Maintaining Yards in Summer
Q: Dennis, what temperature can I safely control on the inside of the house to balance comfort and energy use?
Maintain a steady temperature that avoids large swings; the host explains that letting the AC run too infrequently or turning it up too high can cause the system to work harder later, so aim for a consistent setting and regular cycling to keep the interior comfortable without excessive energy use.
Fix It 101 | Home Inspection Plumbing Problems
Q: What size gas line is proper for a long run to a stove and potential future additions?
Given a 55-foot run, 3/4 inch is often insufficient; 1 inch or even configuring a two-pound system with regulators at fixtures may be more appropriate depending on load, with the gas company sometimes needing to adjust regulators at the meter.
Fix It 101 | Steady Home Maintenance
Q: What safety or insurance standards do you maintain for contractors and subcontractors?
All technicians are licensed or appropriately insured, with workers' comp and general liability. We also require vetted subcontractors, and we insist on proper insurance to protect the homeowner and avoid liability.
Fix It 101 | Steady Home Maintenance
Q: How do you handle scheduling and reliability for homeowners who rely on you to show up?
We have a dedicated dispatch person and a robust back-office, with four visits per year on the standard plan, and a policy that ensures the team shows up as scheduled. If someone can't make it, we have backups to ensure we're there when promised.
Fix It 101 | Preemptive Plumbing Practices
Q: Tell us about the process Patton uses for line scope inspections.
We start by checking for a clean out, then use cameras to inspect from accessible points and through toilets when needed, annotating footage to show exactly what we found.
