Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Everett Katigbak: Indie Streak
Q: How did the Analog Research Lab influence your view of design and branding at scale?
It reframed design as a strategic, human-centered force within a company, capable of shaping culture and product perception beyond traditional marketing.
Everett Katigbak: Indie Streak
Q: What drew you to San Francisco as a hub for your career in design?
A combination of personal history, cultural density, and the ability to have both a vibrant community and a proximity to opportunities, which shaped my sense of where I could grow as a designer.
Joe Gebbia: Designer-in-Chief
Q: What do you hope that you accomplish in this role?
Weaving design into the fabric of our nation, the highest level of decision-making, is one of the things I'd be most proud of, looking back decades from now.
Joe Gebbia: Designer-in-Chief
Q: What are the kinds of design challenges that you all are tackling?
The core is, like, hardcore product UX design. There are a lot of really gnarly processes in the government, retirement being a microcosm of them, that we have to convert to be much simpler, much easier for someone to navigate.
Joe Gebbia: Designer-in-Chief
Q: How did you end up arriving in Washington after a storied career in Silicon Valley?
It wasn't a straight line, that's for sure. I remember when I first heard of the government doing things with Silicon Valley was during the Obama administration... It planted a seed in a very back part of my mind.
