  • A podcast for everyone

For anyone with an internet connected device (basically everyone), this is a must listen podcast. The information Carey presents, the people interviewed and the privacy and security suggestions are priceless. If we all up our security and privacy game with just some of the info Carey mentions, the bad guys are going to have trouble keeping up. I cue this podcast up every week. Wouldn’t miss it.

  • My favorite

My favorite cyber security, privacy podcast. Mr. Parker is very knowledgeable, clean, and leaves politics out of the discussion. He explains things in easy to understand ways. His book is wonderful too. Thanks Mr. Parker, you’re the best.

  • Hmmm… not sure

I’m in two minds about this podcast. The host basically reads current IT/cybersecurity articles out. It’s sort of interesting as the topics can be quite relevant, but just reading articles for an hour? Don’t want to put you off listening but it can be a little dry.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Double Blind Armadillo
Q: What about law enforcement and lawful intercept requirements?
Phreeli must comply with applicable laws, including real-time interception where required, but the founder emphasizes not wanting broad dragnet surveillance. They differentiate between content interception (Calia) and metadata/log collection, aiming to minimize data exposure while adhering to legal obligations.
Double Blind Armadillo
Q: How does Phreeli achieve privacy without sacrificing usability?
Through the double blind Armadillo concept, zero knowledge proofs, and a mixed service to decouple actions from their triggers. They also offer various sign-up options, including zip+4 only, and a prepay model to avoid credit checks, while attempting to keep pricing comparable to major carriers.
Double Blind Armadillo
Q: Who is this service for and what problem are you solving with Phreeli?
The vast majority of people who want more privacy and better control over their data, not necessarily with extreme threat models, are potential customers. Phreeli aims to be more private than big carriers by separating identity from payment and reducing the amount of metadata tied to the user while maintaining convenient service levels.
Debunking Hacklore
Q: How did the Hacklore project come about?
It stems from Bob Lord's extensive experience in cybersecurity, particularly the need to reevaluate outdated advice after observing common security issues.
Honoring Auto Privacy Rights
Q: What kind of personal data is currently being collected in consumer vehicles?
A broad range of data including precise geolocation, driving habits, personal information connected through synced devices, voice prints, and even biometric data.
