Explanation for 2 Stars: Here’s the thing. The reporting is solid. The insights are solid.
Paris Marx says “Y’know” SO OFTEN it’s distracting enough I had to turn it off. It became an unwilling drinking game that would have sent anyone to the ER within the first 10 minutes.
If Marx could do any work whatsoever to get his pause words under control, or at least let AI edit them out, and subsequently spare me an aggregate 9 minutes per podcast he’s saying “Y’know” I think I’d actually enjoy the s... more
No nuance, no curiosity, dogmatic and boring. How to make tech serve society is a the question of our time, but this pod does not even try to answer.
Paris Marx is my go-to tech journalist podcaster and blogger. He has a sharp critical edge on technology and the tech industry, and he provides a voice for many scholars, writers, and journalists who are willing to question tech industry hype. Please support him on Patreon.com.
Great pod. While some topics repeat, it's depth rather than novelty that brings me back. Paris is a great interviewer to friendly guests - don't expect investigative interviews or muckraking, these are conversations between those critical of establishment politics and industry, and are almost always filtered through a left lense. Expect extremely educated conversations breaking down both detail and context for a wide range of listeners, it's useful for perspective even to those deep in tech.
