  • Great pod. While some topics repeat, it's depth rather than novelty that brings me back. Paris is a great interviewer to friendly guests - don't expect investigative interviews or muckraking, these are conversations between those critical of establishment politics and industry, and are almost always filtered through a left lense. Expect extremely educated conversations breaking down both detail and context for a wide range of listeners, it's useful for perspective even to those deep in tech.

Can you stop saying ( like ) all the time when it is not like. Stop ending your sentence your sentences with (right). Is that now a statement or a question? If your smart don’t speak as if you are a valley girl from the eighties.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Elon Musk and Jeffrey Epstein w/ Ed Niedermeyer
Q: I want to explore the first year a bit more and how they get to know one another. How does Elon Musk ultimately get connected with Epstein, and what role did Epstein's social capital play?
Epstein pursued Musk via a web of social connections, leveraging Kimball Musk and intermediaries like Boris Nikolic to access Musk's circle. The connection relied on social currency, gifts, and arrangements that positioned Musk as a rising star within elite networks, rather than through direct business necessity, illustrating how influence is cultivated before any formal deal.
Elon Musk and Jeffrey Epstein w/ Ed Niedermeyer
Q: But before we dig into those specifics, I want to ask you what you make of what we've been learning about the tech industry and broader elite society from the Epstein files?
The Epstein files reveal that power is often exercised through social networks and currency beyond conventional market signals, with elites coordinating across business, government, and media to maintain their position. This suggests that understanding tech history requires looking at how relationships and prestige drive decisions as much as, or more than, pure financial metrics.
The Left Doesn’t Hate Technology w/ Gita Jackson
Q: Gita, welcome back to Tech Won't Save Us. Could you talk about your journey from techno-optimism to a more skeptical view of technology?
The guest discusses growing up with early internet optimism, then witnessing how corporate interests and capital concentration distorted tech development, leading to a shift toward a more critical, community-focused approach to technology.
What’s Driving the Push For Humanoid Robots w/ James Vincent
Q: What is the status of humanoid robotics in China versus the United States and Europe, and who is likely to lead in the long term?
China has strong state backing, scale, and a dense supply chain network that favors rapid prototyping and volume, while the US excels in software, user interfaces, and certain high-end robotics capabilities. The long-term leader is uncertain, but the balance likely hinges on how each region preserves innovation, safety, and industrial strategy at scale.
What’s Driving the Push For Humanoid Robots w/ James Vincent
Q: Is Elon Musk a key mover in pushing humanoid robotics forward, or is the hype sustained by a broader ecosystem of companies and investors?
Musk has clearly energized the space and drawn huge attention, but the conversation is broader: multiple executives and investors contribute to the momentum, with Musk often serving as the catalyst that accelerates money inflows and public interest, even as other players push more cautious, logistics-focused approaches.
