Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Gun Owner Action League
Q: What is somebody alive or dead that you would like to meet and why?
John Green would like to meet his great grandfather, a hunter, to discuss hunting and family history, and to reflect on the passage of tradition across generations.
NRA Education and Training Update 2026
Q: Can you summarize the major program updates coming from the Education and Training Department?
The department implemented a fee increase for non-members to balance cost with members, revised suspension and revocation policies, is updating the BIT curriculum and Trainers Guide, and is expanding the Range Safety Officer ratings to include youth-focused pathways, while finalizing an optics chapter for pistol-related curricula with standardized terminology for civilian training.
HatPoint Target Stands
Q: Tell us about the six-foot stick and shipping considerations.
There is a two-piece stick with a coupler system in development to achieve six-foot height while keeping shipping costs down. This design aims to reduce long, bulky shipments and improve logistics for instructors who travel or ship gear to multiple ranges.
HatPoint Target Stands
Q: What are the advantages of the polymer uprights versus traditional wooden sticks?
Polymer uprights resist warping in sun and do not splinter like wood; they are lighter, safer to handle, and more durable under repetitive training. They also come with pre-drilled holes for stakes, which improves stability and reduces the risk of slivers or sharp edges during field use.
HatPoint Target Stands
Q: Can you describe the target stand and what drove the design?
The design was driven by the need to replace a field of fire made up of mixed materials—metal, wood, PVC—with a single, durable, lightweight system. After studying USPSA setups and durability requirements, the concept evolved into a modular stand using polymer uprights and integrated clips to prevent loose components, making setup faster and safer for instructors.
