  • Go Tom and Team!

I’ve become a huge fan of Tom and his FNN network of competent and deeply knowledgeable reporters. Without fail, this podcast is my go-to source for accurate and non-biased perspectives and information on all aspects of the federal government and the ecosystems within which it exists. Tom is a hilarious and humane host that doesn’t shy away from asking tough questions and providing deep historical context.

  • Support working Americans

Please stop promoting government agencies and unions who do not want to serve the American public. The same people crying about returning to an office are the same ones sitting side by side with other fans in an indoor sports arena. They are the same ones sitting elbow to elbow in a church, without a mask, pretending to be Christian (while their kids sit in a Sunday school class). They are the same ones that are shooing their kids out the door to sit on a school bus and then in a classroom. Are ... more

  • Please fix!!

After every episode finishes it begins the lessons learned leadership podcast with a interview with the CEO of Navy Fed Credit Union. Why?! Love this podcast but it is painful to listen to that introduction every single time after the podcast end.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Challenging a GAO protest stay override may be getting clearer—but not any easier
Q: How should a contractor think about challenging an override decision?
A contractor should consider demonstrating that the agency relied on impermissible factors, failed to consider important aspects, or offered incoherent explanations; and they should pursue a declaratory judgment at the Court of Federal Claims rather than a traditional injunction when possible.
Challenging a GAO protest stay override may be getting clearer—but not any easier
Q: Walk us through the basic mechanics there. What triggers an automatic stay under the Competition and Contracting Act? And what does an agency have to do, at least on paper, to override that?
An automatic stay is triggered by GAO protest within the specified time; to override, the agency must issue a determination and findings showing urgent and compelling circumstances significantly affecting US interests, allowing performance or award despite GAO's pending decision.
Getting the rules right early can shape both safety and growth of emerging technologies
Q: What policy considerations should Congress start discussing now for future technologies?
Congress should consider international space governance, safety and certification standards for robotics in home use, and labor market implications of neural implants to ensure a fair and safe adoption path over the long term.
Getting the rules right early can shape both safety and growth of emerging technologies
Q: Which of the three technologies presents the most immediate regulatory challenge for federal agencies?
Orbital debris management is the most pressing due to finite space in low Earth orbit, the velocity of objects, and the need to coordinate international treaties and national policies to protect ongoing and future space operations.
Getting the rules right early can shape both safety and growth of emerging technologies
Q: Walk us through the STEER framework and how it shapes federal thinking about these technologies.
The STEER framework assesses each technology by its Science and Technology basis, then evaluates the Economics, Environmental impact, and the Societal implications, followed by the Regulatory framework needed to accelerate beneficial use while protecting concerns like privacy and security.
