  • Toxic Positivity

I really am here to follow the family’s story. I commend them for their vulnerability and sharing their stories. Every episode, I feel more and more annoyed about the host’s focus on positivity and what’s “better”. • This podcast was my first exposure to Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), a modality that uses structured questions to help people focus on their present lives and imagine the future they’d like to create. Thanks to the generous commentary from host Dr. Elliott Connie, bookending each episode, I found myself able to “play along at home” and reflect deeply on my own journey. The family demonstrating SFBT is both relatable and aspirational as they work through individual, familial, and generati... more

  • Not toxic positivity

Elliott does a wonderful job meeting each family where they are at and trying to help them see the small signals that tell them they are doing what in alignment with what they want. They discuss their problems and also work to pay attention to the little things that can bring joy or awareness that nothing is ALWAYS bad or ALWAYS good. Sometimes when we are faced with a lot stress we can spend all our time focusing on how life isn’t going our way or reinforcing negative beliefs about ourselves.... more
