  • Someone being angry in my ear

Originally the podcast introduced me to a lot of cool science work. Now Adam shoves his half baked political opinion down my throat.

  • Dissolving into Notjingness

Always appreciated this podcast, but more and more it’s just repetitive and jingoistic. Last episode promised “science”….then proceeded to spend two hours with gender signifying and culture clash. It’s tedious and depending on the guest, completely boring. Sorry. i think I’m done.

  • Why so rude to Annie Jacobsen?

I really enjoyed Hasan Minhaj’s interview with Annie Jacobsen, so I searched for more recent interviews she’s done. Saw this one, thought to myself, “eh, he always kind of came off like a jerk on ‘Adam Ruins Everything.’” But then I thought some of that might have been a put-on for the show. Put the interview on in the car and nope, dude is just a jerk. Acting like he already knew everything she was saying, basically acting like her book was pointless. You could tell she taken aback by his attit... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

BoJack Creator’s Comedy Origins, with Raphael Bob-Waksberg
Q: How did you decide on using format as a primary driver for writing?
We often start with a strong formal idea or device, then craft content around it, using format to push creativity while ensuring the story remains engaging and emotionally resonant.
BoJack Creator’s Comedy Origins, with Raphael Bob-Waksberg
Q: What was the origin of Old English and how did it shape your careers?
Old English formed a boot camp that taught us how to make things with limited resources, focus on craft, and push against conventional formats, which later informed how we approached professional projects.
Elon Musk’s Dark Ideology, with Ben Tarnoff and Quinn Slobodian
Q: Let me just start by asking, maybe the answer is obvious, but why study Elon Musk? Why write about him at all?
The guests explain that Musk is a symptom and avatar of a broader stage of capitalism; studying him helps illuminate how state power, private capital, and new technologies interact to shape the modern world.
Hollywood's Given Up on Progressive Politics, Joel Kim Booster Hasn't
Q: Let's talk about your pro-Palestinian activism, because I had friends who literally had reps drop them after October 7.
Booster shares experiences of facing industry backlash, the personal courage required to speak up, and argues for responsible, context-aware advocacy while acknowledging the cost to careers.
You Deserve to Be Paid More, with Dino Guastella
Q: So what needs to be done beyond focusing on affordability?
The main thing is reindustrialization and a shift toward high-wage, domestic jobs through a serious industrial policy and fair trade practices that keep jobs from leaving the country.
