This is a great initiative! During the conference several innovation village talks were simultaneous with other interesting talks. Now we can learn about several great topics afterwards. Also great forum to allow public discussions between industry and medical professionals. This will be mandatory for creating the future. Despite we can not use this for CME credits, it is a vital process!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Intraoperative Care: Enhancing safety, precision, and patient monitoring during surgery
Q: Should we integrate specialized monitors (e.g., transcranial Doppler) with standard monitoring, or rely on existing devices?
Specialized monitors can be helpful in specific contexts, but the consensus is to prioritize using and integrating existing devices effectively and only add specialized tools when they clearly improve decision making.
Intraoperative Care: Enhancing safety, precision, and patient monitoring during surgery
Q: What would you like to know pre-operatively to optimize intra-operative monitoring?
Panelists suggest broader preoperative data collection, automated analytics, and a holistic view that merges preop baselines with intraoperative monitoring to tailor care.
What guidelines do not tell you about thrombocytopenia?
Q: Why is it important to look beyond platelet count when assessing bleeding risk and deciding on transfusion?
Because bleeding risk depends on multiple interacting factors including hematocrit, vascular integrity, inflammation, and platelet function; platelet function tests and viscoelastic assays can provide a more accurate assessment of hemostatic potential than platelet count alone.
What guidelines do not tell you about thrombocytopenia?
Q: What do guidelines typically say about when to transfuse platelets for stable, non-bleeding patients and before procedures?
Guidelines generally recommend transfusing platelets below 10 for stable, non-bleeding patients and below 50 before procedures, but they do not account for factors like hematocrit and functional platelet status, which significantly affect bleeding risk.
Challenging Dogmas: What defines a job well-done?
Q: Do you think there's other things, maybe things that just make the experience nicer for the patient that we should be monitoring routinely?
Pain, nausea, vomiting, and overall patient satisfaction should be monitored, as they are vital to understanding the patient's experience.
