  • Highly Recommended - Hear it from the Experts!

In my top 5. The three hosts are the most well informed and trustworthy sources for information on the Energy Industries, Energy Technologies, and their environmental impact. Handy advice, critical insights for everyone, wrapped up in a package that is almost as entertaining as it is informative.

  • CDR

    Always a good listen, however:

In the episode re CDR, David somewhat flippantly compared Danielle Smith’s review and potential claim on the CPP with Alberta’s “responsibility” for GHG emissions. To put the two issues on a time equivalent basis, one has to compare cumulative emissions since 1965 with the (arguably tenuous) CPP claim. Current emissions don’t do it. On a cumulative basis since 1965, Alberta has emitted a way smaller proportion of the country’s GHG’s than the 53% claim on CPP. I cou... more

  • Nuanced and honest without diminishing the severity of the climate crisis

To the credit of the co-hosts and their expert guests, I rarely come away from an episode feeling entirely validated in my pre-conceived notions about various topics. Complex issues require nuanced discussions and often lead to understandings that leave us somewhat frustrated but richer for having gone on the intellectual journey. That EvC is able to deliver all of this without diminishing the importance and severity of the climate and energy challenges we face is rather remarkable. Keep up the ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ask EvC Anything 2025 | David Keith, Sara Hastings-Simon, and Ed Whittingham
Q: What do you think the electrical grid might look like by 2050 assuming a government in Alberta is motivated to achieve a net zero target?
The electrical grid will likely need to incorporate a diverse mix of renewable sources, including wind, solar, batteries, and some form of backup energy like combustion or hydrogen, due to Alberta's geographic challenges and energy needs.
Ask EvC Anything 2025 | David Keith, Sara Hastings-Simon, and Ed Whittingham
Q: Will the minimum industrial carbon price for carbon in the Alberta Canada MOU still make it possible for Canada to achieve its carbon emission targets or is all hope lost?
Current policies will not deliver the results needed to achieve the 2030 or 2035 target; emissions are coming down, but not fast enough, indicating that Canada is likely to miss another climate target.
Rewiring a Nation of 1.4 Billion: India’s Energy Transition with Dr. Jai Asundi
Q: What does it take to achieve the targets for electric vehicle sales in India?
It will require an ecosystem play with better infrastructure, higher public acceptability, and the establishment of charging stations.
BONUS: Climate Book Reviews with author Ashley Shelby on Honeymoons in Temporary Locations
Q: How does your book address the themes of grief and privilege during climate crises?
The book blends humor and satire to explore serious issues of inequality in climate change impacts.
BONUS: Climate Book Reviews with author Ashley Shelby on Honeymoons in Temporary Locations
Q: Ashley, could you share how you came to write about climate change?
I started as an environmental journalist, which shaped my understanding for writing fiction around climate issues.
