  • Keep it up!!!

As a Canadian living in the US for a long time, it’s reassuring to see Canada stand firm. Keep these podcasts coming. Most Americans finally realize Trump has gone too far with ICE; however, too many institutional norms have already been broken for the US to retain/regain its role as the leading defender of democracy worldwide. Canada is now the adult in the room. Carney has the perfect approach for Trump. Trump cannot be trusted. Canada can lead the liberal democracies in the new world order. I... more

  • Missed the mark on Kevin O’Leary

I really wanted to love this podcast because I’m a big fan of Laura’s podcasts and, of course, Canadian sovereignty. But I was really put off by the second episode where the American media was eviscerated (rightly so) for using Kevin O’Leary as a spokesperson without mentioning that CBC’s Cross Country Check Up had done the same thing weeks before. There was a huge outcry over this at the time so it seems unlikely the hosts were unaware. I love the CBC but they are not sacred and should be criti... more

  • Just what I need

Like so many others, I’m holding my elbows up, and love the way important topics are discussed in an affable yet fact checked way. A better understanding of what matters in Canada, what the issues are, and how things work.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Canada's a video game powerhouse. Why don't we ever talk about it?
Q: What would help grow the grassroots, independent Canadian game scene?
Stability and time for creators to work on passion projects without being overwhelmed by grant applications and funding chase. Improved coverage of the people behind the games, plus continued access to grants and tax credits, could nurture more indie studios and the creation of distinctive, globally recognized Canadian titles.
Canada's a video game powerhouse. Why don't we ever talk about it?
Q: Why do you think Canada isn't more clearly associated with its own slate of iconic games or creators?
Part of the issue is the way the industry is structured around multinational studios and the lack of a cohesive journalistic beat dedicated to games coverage. Creators remain relatively anonymous compared to actors or directors, and media coverage has historically been thin, leading to weaker national recognition for Canadian games.
Canada's a video game powerhouse. Why don't we ever talk about it?
Q: Could you give people who aren't familiar with Canadian gaming a sense of the scale and key players in the industry?
Canada hosts hundreds of studios, from small indie shops to massive multinational-backed teams, with thousands of direct jobs and billions in GDP. Major hubs include Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, with big players like Ubisoft and EA having significant presences, yet many studios are internationally owned, which complicates national branding around Canadian-made games.
How did Canada become a country of monopolies? It started as one.
Q: What is the Competition Bureau supposed to do, and what challenges does it face?
Its role is to enforce and promote competition, but it faces funding constraints and jurisdictional overlaps with other agencies, which can dilute its effectiveness against large incumbents.
How did Canada become a country of monopolies? It started as one.
Q: Where did the joke about Canada's three mega companies come from?
It stems from a long-running pattern where a few dominant players in telecoms and groceries have shaped the national economy, reinforcing a stereotype of consolidation and control.
