The host is painful and should speak less. Eddie is as delusional as always and shows he’s been lucky to get as far as he has in rugby. Ewen saves the pod. He is a loss to the game in Australia and it’s great to hear his views.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Eddie Jones on Rugby Australia’s $70.6m Surplus
Q: What are your thoughts on a potential American Super Rugby team and a Japanese team being added to the competition, and how would that be funded?
Such expansion could boost television revenue but requires a benefactor willing to absorb large annual losses and a compelling, well‑structured financial model to attract broadcast partners. Without robust funding and a clear TV deal, it risks failing to deliver the required financial catalysts for the tournament.
Eddie Jones on Rugby Australia’s $70.6m Surplus
Q: In your view, what is the core path to Australia becoming a top three rugby nation again, and how should development be funded to achieve that?
The core path is to recruit and retain top talent by creating a comprehensive development pipeline that starts in schools, builds centers of excellence with strong strength and conditioning, and integrates a national development squad. Funding should prioritize sustainable player pathways and coaching excellence, even if it requires upfront investment, as the long‑term payoff is higher performance and world‑level competitiveness.
Six Nations and Super Rugby through International Referee Angus Gardner
Q: What does Angus Gardner see as the core mindset of a referee during a match?
Gardner says referees are there to service the game and the players, acting as enablers by keeping the focus on fairness and flow, and by clearly communicating what is seen to both teams.
Eddie Jones' work ethic and World Rugby’s big calls
Q: Henry Pollock, the superstar from England, has signed with Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Sport. What's your reaction to that move and what might it mean for rugby?
The signing will generate publicity and could shake up the sport's profile, potentially driving broader exposure and innovation, though it will hinge on practical alignment with rugby governance and players' on-field commitments.
Eddie Jones' work ethic and World Rugby’s big calls
Q: When you were coaching in France, what was the culture between you and the other head coaches? Would you go for a glass of wine after the match with the opposing man in charge, and do you have any good stories about the times you were coaching and some of the friendships you made with the other coaches?
The culture varied by club, with post-match functions and social interactions, but the core focus remained on rugby. Relationships could be friendly, and interactions often included sponsors and travel dynamics; it was a different environment that still involved competition and camaraderie.
