  • WONDERFUL

I’ve been a fan of Ryan’s dry, snappy and well thought out broadcasts for the past few years. When Kate Hawksby left I couldn’t imagine who could possibly follow, but by god Ryan’s done it!

He presents the facts, asks the questions we all want answered and is relentless in his approach. Couldn’t imagine a better result.

  • Leaning

This station certainly leans to the ‘right’ in this weird woke world. But that’s obvious and god knows we need something to balance out the bias in the other direction.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

John Stevenson: Fonterra Co-operative Council Chair on the company's jump in profits, potential impact of the war
Q: On a scale of 1 to 10, John, the war, how worried are you about the impact on Fonterra?
There is genuine concern about how long the war will last and the resulting uncertainty, but the company is focusing on how Fonterra handles the situation and maintains supply chains for farmers.
Alex Powell: NZ Herald Sports Reporter on NZ Cricket backing NZ20, Dion Nash resigning from the board
Q: Question now is how quickly they can get this new thing off the ground.
Powell argues that embracing a homegrown franchise model aligns New Zealand cricket with global trends, builds a distinct identity, and could leverage New Zealand's existing talent pool, while acknowledging the complexity and time required to establish both men's and women's leagues.
Ellie Hooper: Greenpeace Aotearoa Oceans Lead on the government's u-turn on the fisheries act
Q: What changes would Greenpeace like to see in the reforms?
She calls for stronger safeguards, more transparent oversight, and incentives for sustainable practices, including less destructive fishing methods and kept access to footage for public scrutiny.
Ellie Hooper: Greenpeace Aotearoa Oceans Lead on the government's u-turn on the fisheries act
Q: How reliable are the government's statistics about bottom trawling and fishable depths?
Hooper argues that government statistics can be misleading and that a substantial portion of fishable depths have been trawled at some point, suggesting the reforms won't meaningfully reduce harm.
Ellie Hooper: Greenpeace Aotearoa Oceans Lead on the government's u-turn on the fisheries act
Q: What is your main concern with the government's Fisheries Act reforms?
The core worry is that the bill narrows public participation, restricts access to important footage, and creates an environment where the commercial fishing industry is favored, undermining ocean health and accountability.
