  • WONDERFUL

I’ve been a fan of Ryan’s dry, snappy and well thought out broadcasts for the past few years. When Kate Hawksby left I couldn’t imagine who could possibly follow, but by god Ryan’s done it!

He presents the facts, asks the questions we all want answered and is relentless in his approach. Couldn’t imagine a better result.

  • Leaning

This station certainly leans to the ‘right’ in this weird woke world. But that’s obvious and god knows we need something to balance out the bias in the other direction.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Eric Crampton: NZ Initiative Senior Economist on Luxon's pre-Budget speech about immigration
Q: How should policymakers think about immigration in relation to labor shortages and job opportunities for locals?
Policy should balance the need for skilled labor with incentives for domestic workers, considering that experienced overseas workers can be preferred in some sectors, while there is concern about youth unemployment and the broader effects of bringing in labor through programs like the accredited employer path.
Eric Crampton: NZ Initiative Senior Economist on Luxon's pre-Budget speech about immigration
Q: What does the data say about public attitudes toward migrants in New Zealand?
Survey data show that most New Zealanders feel positive about migrants, with a growing view that migrants contribute to making the country a better place, though there are concerns about social cohesion and job competition in specific sectors.
Anna Fifield: Former Washington Post Asia-Pacific Editor on the meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping
Q: Any missteps so far, or is it basically all to plan and all sticking to their lines?
Anna Fifield notes that the biggest misstep is actually an omission—Xi Jinping's strong language on Taiwan could lead to a clash if mismanaged, and there are few readouts on concrete actions, such as Iran, leaving details unclear.
Full Show Podcast: 11 May 2026
Q: What is known about Sakir Stama's job prospects and the leadership contest?
The discussion outlines that multiple MPs may step aside for a by-election to allow a leadership bid, with Wes Streeting or Angela Rayner seen as potential contenders, while others view a two-person ticket approach as likely; the process would still take time and create uncertainty for the party and markets.
Full Show Podcast: 11 May 2026
Q: How seriously do we take those comments from Putin about an end to the war, and what is the realistic timeline for peace?
The analyst notes that Putin's statements are not being taken as credible by Western observers, suggesting negotiations would require real concessions and a coordinated deal, and that the domestic Russian audience may be hearing a simplified message rather than a genuine immediate end to hostilities.
